Many questions related to knowledge about Vietnam's sea and islands, the 2012 Law on the Sea of Vietnam, the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard; tasks, functions, and traditions of the Coast Guard force were included in the contest's question bank.

The contest was held in coastal provinces and many localities across the country, attracting thousands of students and teachers to participate. According to Colonel Trieu Quang Quy, Political Commissar of Squadron 21, Command of Coast Guard Region 2, the contest "I love my homeland's sea and islands" contributes to educating and nurturing the intelligence and personality of the school's young generation.
At the same time, widely disseminate to teachers and students knowledge about the sea and islands; state documents related to sea and island sovereignty; functions, tasks, and powers of the Vietnam Coast Guard and the fine traditions of the homeland.
Thereby raising awareness, strengthening military-civilian solidarity, consolidating patriotism, love for the homeland's sea and islands; promoting civic responsibility for the cause of building and firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. Contributing to making our country a strong maritime nation and rich from the sea in the near future.
Sharing about participating in the contest "I love my homeland's sea and islands" held last May in Hong Ky commune, Soc Son district, Hanoi (old), now Trung Gia commune (Hanoi), Pham Hoang Anh, Hong Ky Secondary School said that to participate in the contest, he studied and read a lot about the Law of the Sea, about Hoang Sa, Truong Sa and the soldiers who protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands day and night. Through that, he feels very proud of the tradition of his homeland, as well as the work of the soldiers at the forefront. All those traditions instill in the generation of students like Hoang Anh the love for their homeland and country, and the effort to study to contribute to the country in the future.
The contest “I love my homeland’s sea and islands” is held nationwide, in the period 2024-2030, focusing on coastal provinces and cities. After 2030, it will continue to expand to non-coastal areas.
