RBK newspaper quoted a well-informed source on November 23 saying that the Commander of the Southern Army Group, Colonel General Gennady Anashkin, had been dismissed.
RBK 's source at the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed this personnel decision and said that this was a planned rotation.

“ Anashkin, an honored commander with extensive combat experience, has been fighting since the very first days of the special military operation. Before that, he commanded troops and combined arms in various operations, including peacekeeping ,” the source noted.
Earlier, war correspondent Yuuri Kotenok and telegraph channels World with Yury Podolyaka and Rybar announced the resignation of the general.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not officially announced the appointment of Mr. Anashkin to the position of commander of the Southern army group or his dismissal.
Mr. Anashkin's appointment as acting commander of the Southern Military District became known in May from articles published on the Kremlin website about the list of participants in the meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
