Social Policy Bank offers preferential loans for STEM majors

The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies is ready to deploy loans according to Decision 29/2025/QD-TTg, dated August 28, 2025 of the Prime Minister on credit for students, master's students, and biological researchers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM group).

Credit policy for STEM industries stems from the urgent need for high-quality human resources for key fields, serving digital transformation, innovation and rapid, sustainable economic development.

STEM fields include: life sciences , natural sciences, computer and information technology, engineering technology, engineering, architecture and construction, manufacturing and processing, mathematics and statistics, financial technology.

Students, master's students, and PhD students majoring in STEM can borrow program capital to support tuition, living expenses, and other learning expenses during their studies at universities and vocational training institutions in the national education system.

The loan conditions are that students must have graduated from high school and meet the following conditions: for first-year students, have 3 years of high school results from good level or above or have an average score of 8 points or above in math, physics, chemistry in grade 12.

For students from the second year onwards, with average academic results of subjects of good grade or higher; master's and doctoral students recognized by educational and training institutions.

The maximum loan amount for a student to support the payment of tuition fees, living expenses and other study expenses for the remaining duration of the course, including the student's entire tuition fees, living expenses and other study expenses, is up to a maximum of VND 5 million/month.

The interest rate for this program is 4.8%/year, overdue debt is calculated at 130% of the interest rate when lending. From the date the student finishes the 12-month course, the customer must pay the principal and interest of the loan for the first time. Customers who borrow up to 500 million VND/student do not have to guarantee the repayment obligation, those who borrow more than 500 million VND/student must guarantee the repayment obligation with assets according to the provisions of law.
