MSc. Nguyen Dinh Thong, project leader, reports on research results on transplanting Ngoc Linh ginseng in the area. |
The project aims to determine and evaluate the current status of land quality and land suitability of Ngoc Linh ginseng on different types of sites in Bach Ma and Phu Loc (old Nam Dong), A Luoi; investigate, survey and collect soil and humus samples, analyze soil and humus, and evaluate land quality in areas where Ngoc Linh ginseng is transplanted. At the same time, propose suitable areas for Ngoc Linh ginseng development to be able to develop into new planting areas on different types of sites in Hue city; build experimental models and evaluate the growth and development capacity of Ngoc Linh ginseng at transplant research sites.
The implementation objective of the project is also to propose priority solutions for planting and developing Ngoc Linh ginseng in Hue city in each specific period until 2030, with a vision to 2040.
To carry out the project, the research team conducted a model of Ngoc Linh ginseng transplanting according to 3 formulas (100 m2/model in Bach Ma and A Luoi (old Hong Kim commune)): Sowing seeds, planting 1-year-old trees and planting 2-year-old trees. The model is arranged in an area protected by B40 steel fences, nylon nets to prevent rats and insects, and black nets to cover broken tree branches. Materials for the model include: Ginseng varieties including seeds for sowing, 1-year-old seedlings (of which 30% are tissue culture varieties and 70% are seeds propagated from seeds) and seedlings sown from 2-year-old seeds.
The results of evaluating the quality of 4-year-old ginseng roots according to the planting model in the regions showed that, from the rate of dormant plants, shoot regeneration, survival rate to the average saponin content (%), G-Rg1, M-R2 content in Ngoc Linh ginseng roots in the Bach Ma growing area were all higher than in the growing area in A Luoi.
The model of growing Ngoc Linh ginseng in Bach Ma and A Luoi is evaluated to give good results and high suitability. |
As a result, the project team has identified the scientific and practical basis for ginseng cultivation in Hue city as well as identified suitable areas for Ngoc Linh ginseng on different types of land and proposed a priority plan for developing Ngoc Linh ginseng in the area. The initial experimental model of Ngoc Linh ginseng has proven that Ngoc Linh ginseng can grow and develop in Hue city.
At the workshop, from the results of research on transplanting Ngoc Linh ginseng in the city, a number of units such as forest rangers, Bach Ma National Park, A Luoi Protective Forest Management Board and related units and localities... focused on discussing and proposing a number of issues related to solutions to develop ginseng appropriately, effectively and sustainably. In particular, opinions focused on solutions for planning and developing Ngoc Linh ginseng for the period up to 2030 and long-term orientation; solutions on science and technology and a number of other solutions related to ginseng area infrastructure, trial production of varieties and planting methods, policy mechanisms and consumption markets...
On the side of the Institute of Soil and Fertilizers, the unit wishes to apply the research results as a basis for planning long-term development policies for Ngoc Linh ginseng in the city; transfer the model to the authorities to continue monitoring the development of ginseng in the following years; the locality needs to develop a plan for the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng in the area to have a basis for investment and development.
