According to the leader of Nghien Loan Commune People's Committee, the rain on the night of August 14 and early morning of August 15 caused landslides in residential areas, damaging crops, property and some roads. Many households in Khuoi Boc are living in dangerous areas, as large cracks have appeared on the hillside and streams, posing a risk of landslides at any time if there is heavy rain.

The landslide risk area is about 70 hectares wide, with loose geology, weak adhesion, and easy to erode. The stream over 500m long flowing through the residential area has been filled in many sections, causing water to rise and flood directly into people's houses during prolonged heavy rains.

Mr. Dam Van Tuc, Head of Nam Vam village, said: Out of 109 households in Nam Vam, there are 21 households with 105 people in Khuoi Boc area (mainly Mong and Dao people), living along streams and hillsides, in the high-risk area. Worryingly, 18 of these households are poor households, 1 near-poor household, most of their houses are wooden and makeshift. In the rain on August 14, 3 households had rocks and soil poured into their houses, people are facing a very high risk of flash floods.

The camp was built by local authorities in coordination with Nam Vam villagers.

According to Mr. Duong Van Quynh, Chairman of Nghien Loan Commune People's Committee: Immediately after inspecting the scene, on August 15, the Commune People's Committee mobilized and moved 21 households to temporary shelters at the school and cultural house of Nam Vam village. However, to serve the new school year, the commune arranged a vacant land of 2,000 square meters about 500 meters from the landslide area, set up tents and pulled electricity for people to live temporarily.

In the long term, the Commune People's Committee has planned to use land in a safe location about 500m from Khuoi Boc area with an area of about 4ha. It is expected to arrange about 30 plots of land for households to resettle stably. The Commune hopes that the competent authorities will soon review and approve related documents, and support the locality with funding to soon implement the resettlement area for the people.

Before Ragasa storm forecasted heavy rain, Nghien Loan Commune People's Committee issued a document directing specialized agencies to grasp the storm's developments and coordinate with villages to propagate so that people can proactively take response measures.

The commune also requested to review vulnerable points, be ready to evacuate people and property when necessary; at the same time, ensure the safety of agricultural production, infrastructure works, inter-commune and inter-village traffic in case of natural disasters.
