China has declared its firm opposition to the US's pressure through tariffs and the issue of banned substances, saying that big countries should not bully weak countries.

At a press conference on the sidelines of China's parliamentary session in Beijing on March 7, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the contrast in approaches between China and the US on global issues, according to the CGTN television network.

Responding to CNN's question about US-China relations, Mr. Wang declared that China stands on the side of international justice and opposes power politics and hegemony, emphasizing that the "might is always right" approach is not conducive to a stable world.

Mr. Wang said that big countries should respect international obligations, stand on the side of international justice and "not use strength to bully weak countries."

Trade war broke out when Mr. Trump officially imposed tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico

Responding to a Reuters question about the US tariffs, China's foreign minister stressed the importance of mutual respect as a prerequisite for healthy relations.

He said no country could think about suppressing China while still wanting to maintain good relations, and asserted that Beijing would take countermeasures against any arbitrary imposition of tariffs.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the US to reassess what its tariff policy has done for the trade deficit, inflation or people's lives.

Regarding the narcotic fentanyl, which the US has used as a reason for imposing tariffs, Mr. Wang noted that China has always taken resolute measures against drug trafficking and that fentanyl abuse in the US is an American problem.

The US this week began collecting an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from China, alleging that fentanyl continues to be smuggled into the US. “If one side blindly exerts pressure, China will resolutely respond,” Mr. Wang said.

The US has not commented on the Chinese Foreign Minister's statement.
