Fishermen hit it big with yellowtail and anchovy

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin-2024, fishermen in Gio Viet commune, Cua Viet town (Gio Linh district), Trieu An commune (Trieu Phong district) caught hundreds of tons of yellowtail and anchovy. Many offshore fishing boats earned hundreds of millions of dong after each trip.

Vice Chairwoman of Gio Viet Commune People's Committee Hoang Thi Thu Thuy said that the whole commune has 128 fishing boats and ships with a total capacity of 19,054 CV. From January 17 to now, local fishermen have had a big catch of yellowtail, anchovy, etc. On average, each fishing trip (lasting from 1 to 3 days), each boat catches from 3 to 7 tons of fish. Notably, the offshore fishing boats of fisherman Tran Hong Linh, in Xuan Ngoc village and fisherman Le Van Anh, in Xuan Loc village caught nearly 50 tons of yellowtail during the trip from January 18 to 19, 2024.

With a selling price of about 70,000 VND/kg of yellow catfish; from 14,000 - 15,000 VND/kg of anchovy, it has brought hundreds of millions of VND in income to fishermen. In January 2024, the seafood output of Gio Viet commune reached 300 tons.

It is known that due to the high demand for buying yellowfin tuna during the Lunar New Year 2024, despite the high price, many people still look to buy this type of fish.
