Doctor CKII Pham Thi My Ngoc, Department of Neurology - Musculoskeletal, Da Nang Hospital, said that people who work for long periods in one position, have little exercise, carry heavy loads on their heads or sit in front of a computer screen for too long are the causes of spinal degeneration.
According to Dr. Ngoc, cervical spondylosis is a disease related to changes in the spinal bones, cartilage and cervical discs, which often occurs with aging.
Cervical spondylosis is a common, slowly progressive chronic disease. Up to half of middle-aged or older people have cervical spondylosis.
In most people over 50, the spinal discs lose water content and begin to dry out and shrink, causing the vertebrae to come into more contact with each other.
The spine grows bone to reinforce the formation of bone spurs, these bone spurs narrow the inside of the spine or the intervertebral foramina causing cervical spinal stenosis.
The spinal ligaments can become stiff over time, making it more difficult to move the neck. This is one of the main causes of cervical spondylosis.
In addition, aging is also a common cause of cervical spondylosis. People with cervical spondylosis may be due to prolonged overload of cartilage or incorrect posture.
According to Dr. Ngoc, cervical spondylosis can also be caused by genetic factors, neck trauma, poor diet, lack of calcium, magnesium, alcohol and tobacco abuse, and depression.
Nowadays, with the development of science and technology, bowing your head to use the phone or computer for a long time can increase the risk of neck and shoulder pain and accelerate cervical spondylosis due to frequent sitting, little movement, and little rest time.
It is necessary to massage and care directly to the neck area regularly, do not overwork. There should be reasonable working and resting time, minimizing negative impacts on the cervical vertebrae.
For office workers, using phones or computers for long periods of time, it is necessary to create a habit of protecting your health, protecting your neck to prevent cervical spondylosis right at the workplace, with simple exercises or changes in posture, not sitting at the computer for too long, exercising and maintaining physical activity combined with a scientific diet.
