On June 14, the Criminal Police Department of Lien Chieu District Police, Da Nang City, announced that they were detaining Nguyen Duc Anh (21 years old, residing in Trang Minh Ward, Kien An District, Hai Phong) for the acts of "Humiliating others" and "Extortion of property".
In early May 2023, the Lien Chieu District Police, Da Nang, investigated a number of Facebook groups and forums that posted nude photos of a girl with content claiming that she specialized in fraud and borrowed money without paying it back.
Through investigation, the police identified the person whose photo was posted as Ms. DL (23 years old, residing in Lien Chieu district, Da Nang).
According to the report, in mid-April 2023, Ms. DL posted information about needing to borrow money on a group, then someone using a Zalo account named "Viet Anh" contacted her and agreed to lend Ms. DL 3 million VND.
Nguyen Duc Anh was detained by the police.
The condition for getting the loan is that Ms. DL must take and film nude photos of herself and send them to the lender. The total principal and interest that Ms. DL must pay is 4.8 million VND and pay in installments within 16 days, 300,000 VND per day (equivalent to 100%/month). If the payment is late for 1 day, the borrower must pay a penalty of 300,000 VND). Because she needed money urgently, Ms. DL agreed to the terms set forth by Zalo Viet Anh account.
After Ms. DL sent her personal documents and sensitive photos as requested, the subject only transferred 1.89 million VND to her, informed her that he had collected a customer referral fee of 450,000 VND from the borrower and collected 600,000 VND in advance for the principal and interest for 2 days.
By April 30, Ms. DL had transferred 6 times to the online account named Nguyen Duc Anh with a total amount of 4.95 million VND (including principal, interest and penalty for late payment) and paid off the loan as agreed.
However, the subject continued to use nude photos and videos of Ms. DL to intimidate her, forcing her to transfer more money. Ms. L. did not agree, so the photos were posted on social media. Too scared, in May 2023, she had to transfer another 3.45 million VND.
Through investigation, in coordination with the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Da Nang City Police, Lien Chieu District Police identified and arrested the perpetrator as Nguyen Duc Anh.
He confessed that in addition to Ms. DL, there were many other victims who were girls who needed to borrow money but were controlled by the subject, had their photos posted to humiliate them, had their property extorted, and were loaned at high interest rates.
The Investigation Police Agency of Lien Chieu District Police requested that any of Anh's victims contact the Criminal Police Team of the District Police to provide information and support the investigation.
