Many old men and women are very happy to get free health check-ups.

“For the past three years, although my body has been very tired and aching, I have not dared to go to the hospital because I am worried about the cost. Now I finally have the opportunity to have a doctor examine my health” - Ms. Salmah Him (76 years old, Phong Phu commune, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) shows off her “ticket” to be invited to a free health check-up when the economy is still facing many difficulties.

So happy I can't sleep

On October 1, at Phong Phu Secondary School (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam Waste Treatment Company - VWS (Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Company) coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh District to organize free medical examination and health consultation for the elderly, workers, ethnic minorities and people from poor and near-poor households in Phong Phu, Da Phuoc and Quy Duc communes.

Many elderly people and people from poor families received free medical examinations and medicine.

Before 6 o'clock, Mrs. Salmah Him (76 years old, living in Hamlet 3, Phong Phu Commune) was present very early at the medical examination point to wait for health care. Mrs. Salmah Him said that her body is often tired, her neck and shoulders hurt... but she did not dare to go to the hospital because she did not have money. "If you have pain, you can only apply ointment temporarily, but my family does not have money for examination and treatment" - Mrs. Salmah Him said with a choked voice.

Two days ago, Ms. Salmah Him was unable to sleep all night after receiving an invitation from the commune officials to come for a free medical examination, wishing for the morning to come quickly so she could see the doctor soon. Here, the doctors examined her carefully, prescribed her medicine and advised her on how to take care of her health at home.

“This is the first time I have had a free health check-up so I am very happy. Apart from the blood pressure problem, there are no other dangers so I am less worried” - Ms. Salmah Him confided.

Also one of the first people to be examined, Mrs. Le Thi Duc (76 years old) confided that she used to have a house in Phong Phu commune; due to difficult circumstances, she had to sell it and the whole family moved to Long An to make a living.

“I am old so I can only rely on my children and grandchildren. But my children are also poor, working just enough to eat; when they are sick, they do not dare to go for proper medical examination. Today, I was examined and consulted by doctors in such detail. In addition to the medicines given to treat the illness, the doctors also gave me supplements to improve my health. More surprisingly, we also received gifts of essential foods. We are all elderly, in difficult circumstances, but always receiving the care and attention of generous people like this, I feel very warm,” Mrs. Duc said, choking up.

Hope the program lasts longer

According to the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh district, from 2017 up to now, with the coordination of the Trade Union of the National Assembly Delegation Office, the City People's Council, the leaders of the Vietnam Waste Treatment Company - VWS and the volunteer medical team in the city have organized medical examinations, health consultations and gifts for 1,500 elderly people, ethnic minorities, poor households, near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances in the district.

In order to continue promoting the tradition of "mutual love", on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons, with the sponsorship of VWS, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh district continues to organize a program of medical examination, health consultation and gift giving to 250 elderly people, ethnic minorities, poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances in Phong Phu, Da Phuoc, and Quy Duc communes.

“We hope that this program will continue to be maintained continuously every year, in order to contribute with the Party Committee, the Government and the Front - Mass Organizations from the district to the commune and town to take care of the health of people in difficult circumstances who have little opportunity to visit the doctor” – Ms. Truong Thoai Linh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh district said.

Having accompanied the program of medical examination, free medicine distribution and gift giving to the disadvantaged people of Binh Chanh district for many years, Mr. Duong Van Cuong, Administrative Director of VWS Company shared: “The Company is honored to accompany the City Red Cross Society, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Chanh district and other agencies and departments in taking care of the health of people in Binh Chanh district. In recent years, VWS Company has organized health examination and free medical treatment groups for people in three communes of Phong Phu, Da Phuoc and Quy Duc of Binh Chanh district. On this occasion, the Company sponsored 200 gifts for the elderly, ethnic minorities, poor households, near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances. The Company wishes that people always have good health, receive regular health care and have a happy and joyful life.”
