Many community-oriented activities during the "Humanitarian Month" have left their mark with meaningful and practical actions for people in difficult circumstances, many of whom are children. The care and visits, the practical gifts will give the children more resources and motivation to widen their path to school, to give each dream more wings and more importantly, to help them always feel the love from the community.
Le Van Khang, a 4th grade student at Van Hai Primary School (Kim Son District), has lived with his grandparents since he was a child. Khang's father died in an accident, his mother remarried, and the child was lonely and longing for the warmth of his parents. Khang's grandparents are over 60 years old, and despite their difficult economic situation, because of their love for their orphaned grandchild, they did not hesitate to do anything to earn an income to take care of him and send him to school.
During the Humanitarian Month of 2023, Khang and dozens of children in especially difficult circumstances in Kim Son district received a meaningful gift from the sponsor, which was a bicycle to help them get to school more easily. Khang was happy to try out the new bicycle on the wide village road.
"This brand new bicycle is my dream. With the new bicycle, I will be able to go to school by myself without my grandparents having to take me there. I am very grateful for this gift. I will take good care of the bicycle so that I can use it for a long time," Khang happily said.
In the next school year 2023-2024, Nguyen Dang Khoa will enter grade 3 at Le Hong Phong Primary School (Tam Diep City). His eyes are bright, but sad and still carry the pain of radiation therapy during his journey to treat leukemia. Khoa said that he hopes to recover soon so that he can go to school regularly, study and play like his friends. That's all his dream is. Self-controlled cars, gifts..., are no longer of much interest to him.
Khoa is the second child in a family of three siblings. His family is near-poor, his mother is self-employed, his father is a car mechanic. Khoa's treatment journey has encountered many difficulties because it requires a large amount of funding.
Ms. Ngo Thi Le, Principal of Le Hong Phong Primary School, said: Given Khoa's special circumstances, during the closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 school year, the school mobilized teachers, parents, and students to contribute and raise funds to support Khoa's medical journey. Nearly 30 million VND was the amount of money that the school raised and was handed directly to Khoa and his family. Although the amount of money is not large, it is the affection, love, and meaningful encouragement that teachers and friends give to Khoa with the hope that he will soon recover so that he can return to his teachers and friends and continue going to school.
In recent years, along with teaching and learning activities, Le Hong Phong Primary School has paid special attention to and done well humanitarian and charitable activities, especially during the Humanitarian Month, in many forms such as: Mobilizing members inside and outside the school's Red Cross branch to participate, implementing movements to build the Association's fund; launching movements to support poor students, victims of Agent Orange...
This year is the third year the school has launched the "Overcoming Difficulties to Go to School" scholarship fundraiser. In the 2022-2023 school year alone, the school has mobilized support for 5 scholarships, with a support level of 500,000 VND/student/month, for a period of 9 months.
With its practical significance, the scholarship fund has spread and continued to attract the attention and support of parents and philanthropists, so that more students with difficult circumstances can benefit from the fund. Thereby, it arouses, fosters and educates students about compassion and sharing.
Over the years, children from poor households and children in especially difficult circumstances have always been the ones receiving the attention, sharing and love of all levels, sectors, localities, units and the whole community. Especially, during the Humanitarian Month held in May every year, children are always the ones receiving the most practical care.
Right at the launching ceremony of Humanitarian Month 2023 with the theme "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community", the movement "Good people, good deeds - Joining hands to build a compassionate community" was held in Yen Khanh district, giving milk to over 1,000 students of Khanh Hong and Khanh Hai Kindergartens; 13 bicycles to students in especially difficult circumstances, and providing regular support to 4 humanitarian addresses in Yen Khanh district.
Continuing the activities of Humanitarian Month 2023, the Association at all levels has mobilized and implemented many activities to support the poor and people in sudden difficulties, including many children.
Typical activities include: giving gifts, scholarships, supporting hospital fees, regular assistance, emergency relief, giving milk, bicycles, wheelchairs, building and repairing "Red Cross" houses; giving meals of love; giving helmets, consulting on dental examinations for children; giving cakes and milk to students of kindergartens; giving gifts to patients being treated at Ninh Binh Lung Hospital... contributing to encouraging and helping the disadvantaged to rise up in life. The total value of gifts given during the Humanitarian Month is over 1 billion VND.
Mr. Bui Trong Ky, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: For children in especially difficult circumstances, the Provincial Red Cross Society has also written propaganda articles in newspapers: Tien Phong, Dan Tri, Ninh Binh Newspaper, Central Association Electronic Newspaper, Provincial Association, Humanitarian Magazine, Humanitarian Television... and social networking sites to mobilize support.
Typical examples include support for Nguyen Gia Long, a child in Yen Lam commune (Yen Mo district) who has a serious illness, with over 500 million VND for treatment; support for 4 orphans in Yen Dong commune (Yen Mo district) with over 800 million VND for education; support for Ms. Phuong and her children in Ninh My commune (Hoa Lu district) with over 50 million VND for house repairs and many other typical emergency relief activities...
In the first 6 months of 2023, emergency relief and humanitarian assistance activities have achieved positive results. The Red Cross at all levels has mobilized organizations, individuals and businesses to support over 9 billion VND to help over 30,000 people in difficult circumstances, many of whom are children; thereby contributing to ensuring social security. Typical examples of this activity are the Red Cross of Tam Diep city, Kim Son district, Yen Khanh, Nho Quan, Gia Vien and Ninh Binh city.
