In recent days, travel groups have been warning about fake hotel fanpages offering "surprisingly low prices" to lure customers. When customers contact them, the subjects ask for a deposit of 30% to 100% of the room price. However, immediately after receiving the money, they block communication and disappear.
Mr. V. (living in Ho Chi Minh City) shared: "I planned to book a room for the whole family to go to Vung Tau on the occasion of September 2nd. I saw a fanpage advertising a 4-star hotel, priced at only 1.5 million VND/night, so I texted to book. The other side required a 50% deposit. Suspicious, I called the official phone number directly and found out that the fanpage was completely fake."
A fake fanpage of Ngoc Hanh Vung Tau hotel to scam
Ms. NMT (living in Dong Nai ) was not so lucky. After seeing the Facebook page of a 4-star hotel with tens of thousands of followers, luxurious pictures, and attractive "discount" room prices, she confidently booked 2 rooms for her family during the September 2nd holiday.
"This fanpage responded very quickly, sent pictures of the room, buffet menu... then asked me to transfer a deposit of 3 million VND to hold the room. I thought that a big hotel could not be scammed so I transferred the money with peace of mind, then coincidentally found out about the scam warning, when I contacted them again they blocked my communication" - Ms. T. said.
According to accommodation establishments in Vung Tau, this is a trick that is often repeated during peak tourist seasons. A representative of Ngoc Hanh Hotel (Thuy Van Street) said: "The hotel's fanpage is often faked. Many guests transfer large sums of money and then go to the reception only to find out they have been scammed. There have even been cases where scammers send fake links, take control of the phone and drain the account, with some guests losing up to 80 million VND."
Every holiday and Tet, Vung Tau welcomes a large number of visitors, this is an opportunity for scammers to book cheap rooms.
Malibu Vung Tau Hotel also confirmed that it had received many similar complaints. This unit recommends that visitors should book rooms through reputable platforms or call the hotel's official phone number for verification.
Not only did they lose money, many families also fell into a "dilemma" when they arrived in Vung Tau to check in and found out they had been scammed. At the time when rooms were scarce, they had to accept renting a room at a small hotel far from the beach because they did not want their family to miss their summer trip.
Clean and beautiful Vung Tau beach awaits tourists during the September 2nd holiday this year
Vung Tau Ward People's Committee recommends that tourists should book rooms and services through official channels. It is best to contact hotels and accommodation establishments directly or book through reputable and verified booking websites and applications, instead of transacting via personal Facebook and Zalo without legal information.
Before transferring money, visitors should check and compare addresses and phone numbers from various sources; and request the hotel to provide an invoice or booking confirmation with full information. Visitors should not transfer the entire amount in advance.
In addition, priority should be given to depositing money through the hotel or business's own bank account, absolutely avoid transferring money to an anonymous personal account.
