GETTING THROUGH THE "FIRST TIMES"
In the film Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, Ngoc Xuan was assigned by director Trinh Dinh Le Minh to play the main role after going through 2 months of casting. This is also the first time the actress born in 1999 has participated in a movie after her role in the TV series Mother's Dream and several music videos. The role helped this "newbie" win the Promising Young Actress award at the 2024 Hanoi International Film Festival.

According to Ngoc Xuan, to portray the character of Mien, the actress had to prepare a lot from psychology, nurturing emotions, to understanding the character to convey Mien's inner feelings in a realistic way: "I went back to my hometown to practice being a country girl who knows how to bathe pigs and raise chickens. I asked to take care of my sister's baby to understand the mother's feelings and even write a diary for Mien. Besides, the times I was exposed to acting through the theater stage and the basic foundations of drama seemed to have helped me get used to using all my facial muscles, voice, and body to describe the character's psychology, but when playing the role of Mien - a quiet, quiet girl whose inner feelings are only expressed through her eyes, I had to limit my acting range as much as possible. This was a very interesting challenge," Ngoc Xuan said.
In Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story , Ngoc Xuan had to act in a "hot" scene, a huge pressure for a "newbie", but she was determined to try, because according to her: "This is a work with many meaningful messages, so I quickly erased all worries and cooperated with the crew to complete this scene."
Director Vo Thanh Hoa's film Kaleidoscope, which is currently showing in theaters, is also attracting attention with its brand new trio of main actors: Phuong Duyen, Nhat Linh, and Hung Anh. These faces have never acted in a film or studied acting, but the director still chose them to bring a new breeze to the film version. Talking about her first time "touching the door" with a lot of pressure, Phuong Duyen shared: "As a media student interning at the film director's company with the role of supporting the coordination of candidates for media events, Duyen also wanted to try her hand, so she signed up for the film casting. Duyen was the last candidate to enter the casting room. At that time, I didn't think much about whether I would pass or not, but participated with the desire to experience and learn. When I passed this role, besides the joy, there was also pressure because I knew there would be many "firsts". And I need to learn more skills to be able to do well in this new role".

In the film version of Kaleidoscope , a student from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics - Nhat Linh was chosen to play the role of Tieu Long. Before entering the first filming scenes, Nhat Linh, Hung Anh and Phuong Duyen had a month of acting practice and were trained in acting, then got to know each other, played together, ate together, confided together, cried and laughed together... to create a cohesive "trio". According to Nhat Linh, there were things that she had to learn and do for the first time on her own, such as: "Every time she went to a new filming location, related to a scene with her character, Linh often took the time to carefully observe every small corner, to feel the familiarity of that place. In addition, she also practiced climbing onto a tractor very carefully, or when weaving a frangipani wreath... so that through the screen, the audience could see that Long was very familiar with things like this. Another thing is that she had to overcome difficulties in the first days of practicing exercises on expressing emotions".
NEED A "NEW BRIGHT WIND" SO MUST BET
Talking about the reason for choosing Ngoc Xuan to play the main role, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh revealed that at first he did not completely trust the actress's ability, the choice was almost like a gamble. However, after many meetings and observations, the director realized that Xuan is a girl who loves reading and exploring many aspects of art, so he believed that she would grasp the role and convey the complexity of the character. "During the filming process, I noticed that Xuan was focused and diligent in every scene, and was always learning and ready to change to suit the requirements of the character and the director," Trinh Dinh Le Minh said.
Director Vo Thanh Hoa commented that Gen Z faces are always dynamic, confident, fearless and, importantly, eager to learn. Skills can be trained and coached: "You guys are very confident and dynamic. Every time I go on set, I feel the freshness, energy and joy of participating in the work, playing characters that are once the dream of actors. New or old is not important. We cannot just choose old actors, force them into characters and then find ways to communicate," director Kinh Kaleidoscope add
According to Trinh Dinh Le Minh, to convince the director, a new face needs to have many outstanding factors, of which the most important factor is the ability to feel and express natural emotions. In addition, "although it is a new face, if the actor has a serious attitude, knows how to listen and learn from the director and colleagues, they will quickly integrate and develop their best abilities," 8X director Trinh Dinh Le Minh emphasized.
