Nintendo confirms Mario will have a new voice

According to Gaming Bolt , Nintendo's long-standing Mario brand is so familiar to the video game community that the iconic voice of the plumber has also entered the minds of many generations of players. This has made actor Charles Martinet, who voiced Mario, become an icon associated with the game.

But that's about to end, as Nintendo recently announced that Martinet will be stopping his voice acting and recording activities for Mario in its upcoming games.

After stepping down from his long-time role, Martinet will serve as a Mario ambassador, traveling the world and interacting with fans. The company will celebrate his work with a video featuring a special message from Martinet and Nintendo plumber mascot creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The video will be released at a later date.

While the tweet announcing the farewell to the trademark voice indicated that Martinet had been the voice of Mario since Super Mario 64 (1996), his first role dates back even before that, specifically in the CD-ROM versions of Mario Teaches Typing (1994) and Mario's Game Gallery (1995).

Martinet also acted as the voice actor for a variety of other characters such as Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and even Baby Mario, with his last major work being the 2022 action-adventure strategy game Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope .

Following this announcement, Nintendo also confirmed that Martinet will not be voicing any characters in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder game coming out this October.
