In recent days, in Korea, People's Artist My Uyen has been diligently rehearsing with the international crew for the historical musical project "General Jang Han Sang". From Korea, she sent images and information to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper.
For her, this journey is not simply an artistic business trip, but a special milestone in more than three decades of being attached to the stage.
People's Artist My Uyen practices in the rain and wind
People's Artist My Uyen recounted: "Over the past four days, despite the unpredictable rain and wind, the crew still rehearsed the play outdoors, where more than 100 artists, drummers, child singers, and dancers from Seoul, Busan, and many other cities gathered. Music, lighting, projection screens, and choreography were all deployed synchronously in more than 20 consecutive performances.
"The heavy rain stopped, but as soon as it stopped, everyone put on their raincoats and jogged together, without any complaints. For them, the weather was not an obstacle, but an opportunity to practice flexibility and professionalism," she said.

During this process, People's Artist My Uyen received enthusiastic support from her colleagues: artist Kim Jun Hyun (as General Jang Han Sang) often took advantage of breaks to practice privately with her; choreographer Choi Junho was both serious and humorous, helping the practice atmosphere to be more comfortable; the costume team took care of each pair of shoes and performance outfit.
It was that thoughtfulness that made My Uyen clearly feel the team spirit, discipline and respect that her Korean co-stars had for her.
My Uyen with a role that promises to make an impression on international cooperation
In the musical "General Jang Han Sang", People's Artist My Uyen plays the role of the wife who sends her husband off to war. She appears prominently in chapter 7 - the climax of the play, requiring acting, singing and dancing to blend together, evoking the emotion of separation.

This is also where director Lee Jung Nam places high expectations to portray the humanistic depth of the work. To fully express, People's Artist My Uyen is supported by musician Van Tu Quy (HCMC) in the Korean-Vietnamese transcription. In particular, she will sing a traditional folk song, contributing to bringing the audience to the woman's thoughts in the moment of farewell.
My Uyen and the opportunity from the Vietnam - Korea stage exchange
This artistic handshake stems from a cooperation agreement between the Busan Theater Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association from 2024. In April 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City theater troupe went to Busan to perform the play Comrade, leaving many impressions.
During the meetings, director Lee Jung Nam - author and general director of the play "General Jang Han Sang" noticed the ability and perseverance of People's Artist My Uyen.
He once frankly commented: "Although the language is different, People's Artist My Uyen's emotions still reach the audience." Choosing her to play the role of the wife is a belief built from those impressions.

My Uyen with the stage on the water and the challenging space
The performances are scheduled to take place from September 11 to 14 at Gubong Park, Namdaecheon River, Gyeongbuk Province. This is a special stage space on the water, combining 3D projection technology with the La Maison Productions (France) crew.
The setting is both grand and harsh, requiring the actors to have good control over both technique and emotion. "This is a true historical story, but told in many modern artistic languages. I believe that this fusion will bring the audience both pride and subtle emotions" - People's Artist My Uyen confided.

My Uyen, the fire keeper of stage "5B"
With over 30 years of artistic commitment, People's Artist My Uyen has affirmed her name through many roles and management work at the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater (also known as the small stage "5B").
Since graduating from the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City in 1995, she has chosen a steadfast path, standing on stage, directing, and organizing to keep the stage always lit. Participating in the musical "General Jang Han Sang" has opened a new door for her personal artistic journey, marking a milestone in the cultural exchange between Vietnam and Korea.
And as she admitted, this is an "important trip" - where Vietnamese artists are included in the international art scene, thereby nurturing more faith in the vitality of Vietnamese theater today.
