In late September, in many fields in the upstream areas of An Giang and Dong Thap, water overflowed the banks, water from the upper Mekong River poured in, carrying alluvium, shrimp, fish and many other products of the flood season.

In the Mekong Delta, the flood season starts from the 7th to the 11th lunar month. In addition to fishing and aquaculture, this is also the time when people herd buffaloes across the fields in search of food.

During the 3 to 4 months of the flood season, buffalo herders have to wake up early to herd their buffaloes out to the fields and when the sun sets, they start to herd their buffaloes back home. The work is repeated over and over until the end of the flood season.
