Sharing through simple things
Ms. Tran Thi Hien, President of the Women's Union of Hong Vu commune, said: Learning and following Uncle Ho, the union officials always keep in mind that they must know how to "mobilize the people skillfully", must innovate and be creative so that all people can see that they can contribute a small part to help the disadvantaged. It is this consensus that has helped the union carry out many things that seem beyond their capabilities. When mentioning charitable activities in Hong Vu, many people immediately think of the model of "Charity rice jar", "Raising plastic piggy banks" or buying health insurance cards for poor women. On holidays such as March 8 and October 20, women bring rice and small coins to put in jars and plastic pigs. From these simple things, the union has collected over 900 kg of rice, nearly 160 million VND, and supported the purchase of health insurance cards for 388 women with a total amount of nearly 700 million VND. Ms. Bui Thi Sam, Head of the Women's Association of Village 5, shared: In my village's association, many members do not have much money, but everyone voluntarily participates in charitable activities. Some contribute a few kilos of rice, others contribute tens of thousands of dong, although small but full of affection. Thanks to the savings model to buy health insurance cards, each month we save about 40 million dong to help women in difficult circumstances have medical examination and treatment cards. Seeing members being helped, everyone is excited and more attached to the movements and activities of the association.
Not only the "Charity Rice Jars" or "Plastic Savings Pigs", the model of collecting and classifying recyclable waste to raise funds is also very practical and effective. Up to now, the amount of money collected from this model has reached more than 100 million VND, supporting hundreds of women and children in difficult circumstances. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhien, a member of the Women's Union of Village 3, confided: Since the model was established, I have always classified waste at home. On the 24th of every month, I collect scrap and bring it to the collection point. Knowing that the scrap is small but selling it will generate money to help the poor, I always maintain it and consider it a meaningful work.
Homes full of love
Not stopping at supporting essential needs, the Women's Union of Hong Vu commune also considers eliminating dilapidated houses for poor women as a key task. Since the beginning of the term, the Union has mobilized the construction of 5 "Shelters of Love", repaired 3 dilapidated houses, and supported 96 working days for members in difficult circumstances with a total amount of over 600 million VND. Ms. Pham Thi Bay, one of the members who received support to build a house, confided: As a single woman who is often sick and has economic difficulties, I used to live in a dilapidated level 4 house, and every time there was a storm, I had to stay with neighbors and relatives. Luckily, in 2024, I received financial support from the Women's Union of the commune, plus the help of the government, philanthropists and relatives, so I was able to build a house of nearly 40 m² with a total amount of 185 million VND. This is a meaningful gift that I will never forget in my life.
In addition, the Association has also implemented many humanitarian programs such as: "Godmother", "Loving Leaves", "Spring Connection - Loving Tet", "Supporting Children to School", "Lighting Up Dreams". Thanks to that, more than 100 children in difficult circumstances have received scholarships and gifts. Up to now, the Association has also cooked 12 pots of charity porridge with a total cost of 18 million VND to help encourage poor patients at Kien Xuong General Hospital to overcome difficulties.
Ms. Tran Thi Hien, President of the Women's Union of Hong Vu commune, affirmed: In the coming time, the Union will continue to replicate effective models so that each member feels like a part of the humanitarian journey and no women or children are left behind.
