Mr. Nguyen Van Thang was appointed Minister of Finance.

(Dan Tri) - After more than 2 years as Minister of Transport, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang was approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as Minister of Finance. Mr. Thang is a Doctor of Financial and Monetary Theory.

On the afternoon of November 28, the National Assembly passed a resolution approving the Prime Minister 's proposal to appoint Mr. Nguyen Van Thang as Minister of Finance with 94.36% of the total number of delegates voting in favor.

This Resolution takes effect from the date the National Assembly votes and passes it.

Thus, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang became the successor of Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc in the position of Commander of the Finance sector.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang was born in 1973, hometown in Hanoi .

He has a PhD in Monetary Theory Finance, is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and a delegate of the 14th and 15th National Assembly.

Starting out as a business officer, Mr. Thang has more than 20 years of experience working at the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) and has held many different positions.

From Secretary of VietinBank General Director, Mr. Thang gradually became Deputy Head and then Head of Large Corporate Clients Department of VietinBank, before successively taking on the positions of General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of VietinBank.

In mid-2018, he was transferred by the Politburo and appointed to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee and was elected to hold the position of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, then held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee.

In October 2020, the Politburo appointed Mr. Thang to join the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee. He was then elected to hold the position of Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee and held this position for 2 years, before being approved by the National Assembly to be appointed as Minister of Transport.
