Trump makes further moves on immigration and transportation policies

US President-elect Donald Trump has just confirmed his intention to declare a national emergency and use the military to support his plan to deport illegal immigrants en masse.
On the social network Truth Social on November 19, he cited a post by conservative activist Tom Fitton speculating about the possibility of the next US administration making the above moves, and confirmed "yes". Mr. Trump has announced that he will carry out the largest deportation campaign in history targeting illegal immigrants immediately after taking office on January 20, 2025, according to The Guardian. However, observers say that mobilizing the military will face legal barriers and opposition from Democratic leaders. Mr. Trump plans to propose appointing many hard-line figures on immigration issues, including former acting Director of Immigration and Navy Enforcement Thomas Homan to be in charge of border issues and former immigration policy adviser Stephen Miller to be deputy chief of staff of the White House.

Continuing to strengthen his new cabinet, Mr. Trump on November 18 chose former Congressman Sean Duffy (53 years old), currently a host of Fox News, for the position of Secretary of Transportation. Mr. Duffy will oversee aviation, automobile, rail, public transportation and other transportation policies at this department with a budget of about 110 billion USD, as well as significant spending under the 2021 $1,000 billion infrastructure law of the administration of President Joe Biden and electric vehicle charging stations. The president-elect said Mr. Duffy will prioritize "excellence, capacity, competitiveness and beauty when rebuilding America's highways, tunnels, bridges and airports." Mr. Trump has vowed to reverse the current administration's vehicle emission regulations. These regulations will increase emissions cuts and push automakers to build more electric vehicles. In another move, Mr. Trump may attend the test launch of the reusable Starship rocket by billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX in Texas, scheduled to take place at around 4 p.m. on November 19 (local time, 5 a.m. on November 20, Vietnam time). Mr. Musk actively supported Mr. Trump in the election and was chosen to lead a new agency that will be created to improve the efficiency of the government .
