Quang Tri PC proactively responds to natural disaster situations

In 2024, according to the forecast of the National Hydrometeorological Agency, the El Nino phenomenon is gradually weakening and is likely to transition to La Nina status in the last months of the year. Climate change continues to increase the extreme impact, so it is forecasted that natural disasters will develop complicatedly, especially rain, storms, and floods appearing frequently in the last months of the year. To operate the power system safely, Quang Tri Power Company (PC Quang Tri) proactively develops a plan for natural disaster prevention, control, search and rescue (PCTT&TKCN), actively repairs and upgrades the power grid.

Since the beginning of the second quarter of 2024, PC Quang Tri has completed the PCTT&TKCN plan. Organized inspections of PCTT&TKCN work at all affiliated units regarding operating methods and incident handling plans, promptly responded to natural disasters, and minimized possible damage.

At the same time, promote propaganda and dissemination of PCTT&TKCN to all cadres, workers and employees in the unit as well as people in the area where the power grid passes. Due to the special conditions of complicated weather, Quang Tri province has to endure many storms and floods, big and small, every year. Especially in the 3 months of September, October and November, it is often affected by monsoon with heavy rains that can easily cause floods.

Therefore, damage to the power grid is often caused by rain and strong winds that cause trees to fall, causing broken wires, falling poles, or by whirlwinds that sweep objects onto the power grid, causing circuit breakers, grounding, causing interruptions in power supply and grid insecurity. Therefore, PC Quang Tri has established a core force for natural disaster prevention and control to proactively respond. The unit has focused on training and organizing drills on response plans for risky situations caused by natural disasters, epidemics, etc.

Since the beginning of the year, the company has developed a plan to prepare power sources and grids for safe, stable and reliable operation, especially during hot days and complicated rain, wind, storms and floods. The affiliated power companies have increased inspections of grid safety corridors, organized tree trimming, and relocated signs and billboards that are at risk of touching or falling on power lines, causing grid incidents, especially at vulnerable points and locations at risk of unsafety.

Use modern equipment such as long-range thermal cameras and flycams to promptly detect and handle problems on the grid. Monitor the load status of distribution transformers to have appropriate plans for phase balancing, switching, and load sharing. At the same time, coordinate with local authorities to propagate and disseminate legal regulations on electrical safety, protect the grid safety corridor for people, and guide people to use electricity safely.

With the goal of not being passive and surprised by natural disasters, PC Quang Tri always prepares resources, equipment, means and materials to promptly overcome incidents and damages caused by natural disasters in the fastest time. Regularly check the response preparation work, promptly overcome damages caused by natural disasters, ensuring safety for people and equipment. Always update and monitor warnings and forecasts of natural disasters and weather through the media of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to proactively take timely response measures.

As of mid-August 2024, PC Quang Tri has completed plans and scenarios for natural disaster prevention and control and overcoming incidents during this year's storm season. In addition, the unit has thoroughly instructed all officers and employees to organize 24/7 on-call duty when storms occur; strictly implementing instructions and directives from superiors.

Fully prepare the communication system, backup materials, and shock troops to be ready to deploy quick troubleshooting plans, ensure safe and continuous power supply, and minimize damage caused by natural disasters. With careful preparation in terms of plans, technical materials, and human resources, PC Quang Tri is ready to respond to natural disaster situations, minimize damage caused by natural disasters, and quickly fix problems to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid, serving the people in the province.
