Selena Gomez (32 years old) reacted to Sam Parker, the 2018 Republican Senate candidate from Utah - who wrote "deport Selena Gomez" after criticizing the video she uploaded to her personal account on X.

In the Instagram post, she wrote on a black background: "Oh Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laughs and the threats."

Selena Gomez was born into a family of immigrants from Mexico.

The since-deleted video was posted on Instagram, in which Selena Gomez shared a few words of reaction to the recent deportations taking place in the US. In the text overlay on the video, she wrote "I'm sorry" and a Mexican flag emoji.

"So many immigrants like my family are being attacked, even children. I don't understand. I'm so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can't. I don't know what to do. I will try everything, I promise," she said in the video.

In a follow-up post, Selena wrote on a black background: "It's obviously not a good idea to show empathy to people."

The Calm Down singer's post comes a day after 956 people were arrested in an immigration crackdown across the US (the most since Donald Trump took office on January 20), according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). There were 956 arrests reported on January 26, 286 on January 25 and 593 on January 24, BBC reported.

According to the Migration Policy Institute via the BBC , former President Joe Biden carried out 1.5 million deportations in his four years in office – numbers “similar to the number of deportations during Donald Trump's first term.”

Selena Gomez produced the Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented , which focuses on the lives of undocumented families in the United States. She has been vocal in her support of immigration, especially given her family's experience with the issue.

Selena Gomez Responds to Sam Parker

In an emotional October 2019 op-ed for Time magazine, she shared that her aunt "was the first in her family to cross the border from Mexico into the United States in the back of a truck in the 1970s." According to the singer, her grandparents followed, and her father was born in Texas soon after.

"Undocumented migration is an issue I think about every day. I never forget how lucky I am to have been born in this country through family and circumstances," the Only Murders in the Building star wrote in an editorial.

Selena Gomez said her story is not the norm, and shared that when watching footage of the eight characters in Living Undocumented , she said: "When I read the news headlines or see the debates about immigrant rage on social media, I feel scared for people in similar situations. I feel scared for my country."
