Launch of the "Scam Identification" campaign

The "Fraud Identification" campaign, brought to Vietnam for the first time by the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with Meta Group, will help social network users improve their knowledge about effective ways to prevent online fraud.

The Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) and Meta Group launched the "Fraud Identification" campaign, which will be held for the first time in Vietnam in 2024, to share with the social network user community useful ways to prevent online fraud.

Aiming to ensure the safety of social media users, including improving skills in identifying and preventing online scams, a pressing issue that requires the joint efforts of many parties from government agencies, law enforcement agencies and all social media platforms.

The "Scam Identification" communication campaign will focus on 6 of the 24 forms of online fraud identified by the Information Security Department as hot spots in Vietnam:

1) Investment fraud
2) Employment fraud
3) Financial fraud
4) Loan fraud
5) Lottery scams
6) Impersonation scams

The campaign will include a series of images and short videos on how to identify and handle online scams posted on Meta's and the Information Security Department's social media platforms as well as on Meta's Digital Age Thinking website. In particular, the campaign will also have the participation of famous content creators in Vietnam, aiming to spread good and easy-to-remember tips so that everyone can learn and protect themselves from the risks of online scams.

As one of the two main partners of the program, Mr. Nguyen Phu Luong, Deputy Director of the National Cyber ​​Security Monitoring Center (NCSC), Department of Information Security, said: “Social networks are fertile ground for cybercriminals to commit fraud, because just one minute of subjectivity, negligence and lack of knowledge, people can fall into traps at any time. With the "Scam Identification" campaign in collaboration with Meta, we aim to equip all digital citizens with the ability to self-identify scam traps, improving their self-protection skills in cyberspace."

Raising awareness among people about online fraud is one of the top priorities of the Information Security Department. When every citizen and vulnerable group knows how to identify and be more vigilant against fraud, it will help reduce the number of online frauds in the future.”

“The safety and security of our users on our platforms is our top priority. We are committed to preventing scams that impact the user experience and educating them on them,” said Ruici Tio, Head of Safety Policy Program, Asia Pacific, Meta Group. “In 2023, we launched the first phase of our Vietnam-specific Phishing Awareness campaign, reaching millions of users and attracting hundreds of thousands of visits to Meta’s Digital Mindset Online Safety Portal. This year’s collaboration with the Department of Information Security aims to continue to improve the skills of Vietnamese people in identifying and dealing with online scams. We want all users to proactively equip themselves with knowledge about the importance of being vigilant against online scams.”
