Illegal gold mining camp discovered in Ben Hai protective forest

On July 15, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Director of the Ben Hai River Basin Protective Forest Management Board (Quang Tri province), said that the unit had just discovered many illegal gold mining sites in the protective forest area managed by the unit.

Specifically, the working group discovered 3 locations with signs of illegal gold mining at lot 4, compartment 4 and lot 10, compartment 2, sub-compartment 576; and the same point at lot 33, compartment 5, sub-compartment 582 in Ben Quan commune. At the scene, the subjects had set up camp and brought machinery into the deep forest to serve the gold mining. When detecting the inspection force, the subjects quickly left the scene, leaving behind many exhibits.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung said that illegal mining activities mainly take place at night, in rugged mountainous areas, making it difficult to inspect and handle. Currently, there are still many illegal gold mines in this area that cannot be demolished due to complex terrain conditions. He recommended that the authorities soon coordinate to inspect and handle the situation thoroughly to prevent recurrence.
