Awarding the title of Hero of Labor to comrade Nguyen Thi Binh

On the morning of August 25, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the Party and State, performed the ceremony to confer the title of Hero of Labor on comrade Nguyen Thi Binh.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh is a former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, former Head of the Delegation of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam.

To acknowledge and honor the exceptionally outstanding contributions of great historical significance of comrade Nguyen Thi Binh, The Party and State have decided to confer the title of Hero of Labor.

At the ceremony, with great emotion, Comrade Nguyen Thi Binh recalled the negotiations between us and the US at the Paris Conference on ending the war in Vietnam, calling this a particularly important event in the 80-year history of the Diplomatic sector. She emphasized that the victory at the diplomatic negotiation table contributed to the great historical victory of the nation, leading to the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

“Today, we have peace, independence, unity with a new position, deep international integration, with the goal of building a strong and developed Vietnam. I believe that with 80 years of tradition and valuable historical lessons, the Diplomatic sector will develop strongly, reap many great victories in the new journey, worthy of the trust of the Party, State and People,” said Comrade Nguyen Thi Binh.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Binh's real name is Nguyen Thi Chau Sa, born on May 26, 1927. She was the Head of the negotiating delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government at the Paris Conference on Vietnam from 1969 to 1973.

At the four-party talks in Paris, Vietnam had two delegations: the Democratic Republic of Vietnam delegation led by Foreign Minister Tran Xuan Thuy and Special Advisor Le Duc Tho and the second delegation of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam led by comrade Nguyen Thi Binh.

The two delegations coordinated closely, overcame all difficulties, united and joined forces, and after nearly 5 years completed the mission.

Not only was she closely involved in the Paris Conference, Comrade Nguyen Thi Binh also directly led the propaganda work, people-to-people diplomacy, and built an international network of relations with more than 40 countries and progressive organizations. During her visits to many countries on many continents, she attended many rallies, demonstrations, and parades, thereby spreading the image of the heroic struggle of the people of South Vietnam to international friends.

With his tireless contributions to the Fatherland, he was awarded many noble awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Medal, First Class Military Exploit Medal, First Class Anti-American Resistance Medal, Great Solidarity Medal and First Class Freedom Medal of Laos.
