A landslide caused traffic congestion in Quang Binh province.

In Quang Binh province, heavy rains caused by storm No. 6 have caused serious landslides on many national highways. The Quang Binh Department of Transport has directed units to mobilize machinery and vehicles day and night to clear the roads, helping people travel conveniently and safely.

National Highway 9C is a vital route connecting the East-West corridor in the South of Quang Binh province. Due to heavy rain and floods in recent days, the road has been eroded at 8 points with an estimated volume of earth and rock of over 15,000m3.

Due to the road blockage, all trade, transportation and travel activities of people in the border area with the delta were blocked.

Mr. Ho Van Nam, Son Thuy commune, Le Thuy district (Quang Binh) said: "I often travel on National Highway 9C, but now the landslide has caused traffic jams and I cannot travel. In the past 5 days, I have had to take other routes that are farther and more difficult. I hope the units will soon fix it so that people can travel conveniently."

According to Mr. Ha Van Tuan, Head of the National Highway 9C Road Management Department, after storm No. 6 made landfall, causing heavy rain, landslides occurred at many points on National Highways 9C and 9B, with a large amount of rock and soil, causing traffic congestion.

During the heavy rain, the unit assigned forces to put up warning signs to prevent people from passing through landslide areas to ensure safety.

Afterwards, the management unit also mobilized machinery and equipment to repair and try to clear the route as soon as possible. However, at some points, the volume of landslides is so large that the repair is facing many difficulties.

According to the forecast from November 3, Quang Binh province will continue to have heavy rain, so the unit is focusing on speeding up the progress.

As of the afternoon of November 2, Quang Binh province still had 14 landslides being repaired; including many serious landslides on National Highways 9B and 9C and National Highway 12A.

To fix the problem, in recent days, the Quang Binh Department of Transport has directed units to mobilize machinery and vehicles to work day and night to repair the route soon.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Quang Binh Department of Transport, said that construction units have mobilized machinery and equipment to work in 3 shifts 24/7 to make efforts to clear traffic.

However, the construction encountered many difficulties due to unfavorable weather conditions, prolonged heavy rain, narrow construction sites, many muddy trees and the risk of landslides and slides.

It is expected that in the next 1-2 days, the units will complete the repair to reopen the entire route. According to statistics, the recent floods in Quang Binh province caused 10km of National Highways 9C, 9B, 9E, National Highway 12A and National Highway 15 to be eroded and landslides of over 3,030 cubic meters of rock and soil.

In addition, heavy rains also caused severe flooding at dozens of locations on national and provincial highways.
