Quang Duong "pocketed" 3 top pickleball athletes in Vietnam at the same time

(Dan Tri) - Young tennis player Quang Duong has just created an unprecedented feat in the history of Vietnamese pickleball when he simultaneously defeated 3 top players in a tournament in Quang Ninh on the afternoon of September 21.

In the men’s open doubles quarter-finals, the duo Quang Duong - Casey Diamond had an overwhelming victory over two names that are “making waves” in the Vietnamese amateur tournaments, Trinh Linh Giang and Ly Hoang Nam. Despite being highly rated, the Giang - Nam pair still had to stop after losing with a score of 3-15.

With overwhelming performance, the pair Quang Duong - Casey Diamond easily entered the final of the Open men's doubles against the pair Phuc Huynh - Tama. Although considered one of the top men's singles players in Vietnam, Phuc Huynh was still unable to withstand the strength of Quang Duong and Casey.

In the first set, the Vietnamese-American "prodigy" couple showed their superiority and won 11-6. Although Phuc Huynh and his teammates played with great effort in the second set, with their perfect finishing ability, Quang Duong and Casey still finished the match with a score of 11-6, winning 2-0 overall and crowned the Open men's doubles champion.

A day earlier, Quang Duong had won the mixed doubles event when he and his teammate Amanda defeated the pair Ly Hoang Nam - Connie Lee 15-11 in the quarterfinals. They then continued their impressive form by defeating Trinh Linh Giang - Ken Tam with a score of 15-5 in the final.

Overwhelmingly winning against all opponents, Quang Duong has shown a different level compared to the rest of Vietnamese pickleball. The 19-year-old player currently holds many outstanding achievements such as World Champion of the IHG Bristol Open 2024 and climbed to 4th place on the PPA world rankings.

He also won the men's doubles title at a PPA Tour tournament and won two international titles in India in August this year.

On the world pickleball map, Quang Duong made history by becoming the most expensive athlete at the Global Sports Auction 2025 tournament (a tournament under the Global Pickleball Alliance).

With a record price of nearly 33,000 USD (more than 870 million VND), this achievement is not only Quang Duong's personal pride but also an important turning point, affirming the potential of Vietnamese athletes to reach the international level.
