Quang Nam and new resources from the twinning journey

Support for mountainous areas

For many years of association and companionship, Dong Giang - Dien Ban are considered two twinned localities with a special "fate". Many projects have been and are being invested in Dong Giang, and to this day, they are still showing practical effectiveness.

A typical example is Me Thu Secondary School (Prao town), with a total investment of more than 23 billion VND, after nearly 10 years of operation, the school named after Heroic Vietnamese Mothers is now considered a "common home" for children of ethnic minorities in Dong Giang.

Up to now, the whole province has 89 agencies, units, organizations, and enterprises twinned with 66 mountainous communes. Of which, 9 districts, towns, and cities in the plains have twinned with 9 mountainous districts and sponsored 14 border communes of the province; some agencies and units have twinned with 2-3 communes with special difficulties.

The units have carried out many positive activities, making practical and effective contributions both materially and spiritually to the localities assigned to them for twinning.

With resources from mobilization among cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers; socialization from organizations and individuals and integration from programs, plans, and projects... the total value of support for twinning work is nearly 81.5 billion VND.

Mr. Do Huu Tung - Vice Chairman of Dong Giang District People's Committee said that Dien Ban's support and assistance programs have helped the locality a lot in investing in infrastructure projects, new livelihood models, etc. Many models and projects have been effective in helping the community develop, increase income, and stabilize life.

“In the 2021 - 2025 period, implementing Decision No. 1100 of the Provincial People's Committee, we proactively reviewed and informed the needs to Dien Ban Town Party Committee.

Afterwards, the Standing Committee of Dien Ban Town Party Committee and the Standing Committee of Dong Giang District Party Committee had a working session to coordinate and exchange information on the living conditions, production, economy , culture and society of each locality to develop a twinning plan suitable to reality.

During the twinning process, Dien Ban supported 5 billion VND to help Dong Giang build an anti-erosion embankment at the district stadium. In addition, 100 million VND was supported to serve the livelihoods of the people, along with many gifts to encourage people in difficult circumstances affected by natural disasters and floods" - Mr. Tung shared.

Not only Dien Ban, in recent years, Dong Giang has received a lot of affection and support from agencies, units in the province, businesses and localities in the delta.

With the spirit of sharing, up to now, the units have helped the locality build 20 houses of gratitude and solidarity; dozens of computer and television sets; many scholarships for poor students, along with post-disaster support programs, lighting up the countryside roads.

“In addition, we organize training courses to improve capacity, disseminate legal education and provide legal aid; youth start-up forums, health check-ups, open vocational training classes for interior electrical installation, mechanical welding, cooking…” - Mr. Tung added.

Contribute to eliminating temporary housing

In recent years, Quang Nam has promoted the work of supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses on a province-wide scale. This is a major policy to support and contribute to ensuring stable housing for the disadvantaged, especially those in ethnic minority areas.

Not outside of that meaningful goal, twinning work is also "integrated", creating momentum to promote the plan to eliminate temporary housing for the community.

Mr. Chau Van Ngo - Vice Chairman of Nam Giang District People's Committee said that, implementing the Provincial Party Committee's policy, in the period of 2021 - 2023, the locality has 11 communes twinned with 23 units and localities in the province.

After 3 years of implementing the twinning work, Nam Giang received a total support fund of nearly 16.4 billion VND. From this fund, in addition to supporting the construction of the grassroots political system, economic development, social security and national defense - security, the locality has allocated most of its resources to support the construction of 33 new houses for disadvantaged households and women in border communes, contributing to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the district.

“Up to now, all 33 houses have been completed and handed over for use with the support resources of the partner units, contributing to promoting stable housing for the disadvantaged people in the district. The households selected to build new houses are all poor, often sick, policy families, single, homeless…” - Mr. Ngo said.

According to the Provincial Party Committee's report, after 3 years of implementing twinning, the units have supported the construction of more than 100 gratitude houses, charity shelters, solidarity houses and formed many production development models, supporting plant varieties, livestock, tools and production equipment.

This housing support for the poor has greatly contributed to the goal of eliminating temporary housing, creating conditions for people to stabilize their lives.

In addition, the units also carried out many other support activities, such as mobilizing thousands of workdays to help people create land to build residential areas, construct rural roads, repair houses, etc.
