According to Chris Miller (author of Chip Wars) and Jordan Schneider (creator of the China Talk podcast), Russia and China are looking to circumvent export restrictions on machine tools and advanced chipmaking equipment through unauthorized acquisitions.
In that context, two experts Miller and Schneider said that high-tech products sold abroad should be tracked by installing "anti-intrusion geolocation devices".
“The Apple AirTag costs less than $30. Multimillion-dollar device manufacturers can certainly find an efficient way to implement government- approved geolocation capabilities into dual-use products,” experts commented.
They concluded that, once in Russia or China, such technologies should be “automatically blocked” or at least “investigators should be able to track their movements.”
