Samsung 'forgot' two valuable features of Android 16 on One UI 8

Why One UI 8 can't 'stand shoulder to shoulder' with the original Android 16? Here's what Samsung is missing.

According to Android Authority , Samsung surprised everyone by launching the One UI 8 beta program (based on Android 16) earlier than expected, but the joy for users may not be complete. According to the first betas, Samsung's new interface, although fast, is missing two highly appreciated features of Android 16, raising concerns that the experience on Galaxy phones may not be as 'quality' as Google's Pixel devices.

One UI 8 is missing two valuable features from Android 16

The first and most obvious omission is the Material Expressive design language. This is considered a huge step forward for Google, giving Android a fresh, vibrant look with bold colors and fun animations. Many people believe that this design gives Android a lead in aesthetics, while Samsung's One UI interface, while once loved, has become somewhat boring and stale. Not adopting Material Expressive may cause Samsung to miss out on the opportunity to refresh itself.

The second is the Notification Cooldown feature. For those who are constantly bothered by notifications, this feature automatically reduces the volume of consecutive alerts. It's a small but extremely useful improvement for the daily experience. Technically, companies like Samsung have the right to choose whether to integrate it or not.

Another disappointment is the haptic feedback. Despite having high-quality vibration motor hardware, One UI doesn’t take full advantage of this potential. While the Pixels offer subtle vibrations for almost every action, from swiping notifications to adjusting volume, One UI is quite muted, which reduces the premium and lively feel of the device.

While One UI 8 is still in beta and there's still time for changes, the absence of these key features shows a potential gap between Samsung's vision and what users actually want from Android 16.
