Comments for Can Tho airport were raised at a meeting to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9, 1960 - July 9, 2025) and display tourism products, organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city on the afternoon of July 8.

Mr. Truong Van Vinh, director of Ido Travel Can Tho Company and vice president of Can Tho City Tourism Association, said that after July 1, Can Tho city will have a population of more than 4 million people, which is one of the factors creating a space for full tourism development for Can Tho in the coming time.

With such a wide development space, according to Mr. Vinh, it is necessary to build tourism products linked from the strengths of the locality, creating distinct highlights on each product line such as developing river tourism, pilgrimage tourism, and typical festival tourism connecting with provinces in the region to create new products such as Can Tho - Ca Mau, Can Tho - An Giang , Can Tho - Vinh Long... These are product lines that can be exploited in new conditions.

Besides the potential, Mr. Vinh also pointed out some limitations, including Can Tho airport which is well invested, but currently has only 6 flights from Can Tho to Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Con Dao, Phu Quoc.

"The airport has a capacity of 3-5 million passengers/year, but there are too few routes, and there are no international routes. How can the leaders of the city People's Committee, the department leaders and travel businesses continue to propose airlines to open routes?", Mr. Vinh suggested.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - acknowledged that the opinions of travel businesses, especially Mr. Vinh's opinion, are "valid", tourism industry leaders and city leaders have seen it.

"Currently, Can Tho airport is an international airport but has limited flights, there are many reasons. This is also a concern and the city wants to open more flights but it depends on many factors, it is not a wish that can be achieved overnight," Ms. Diep shared.

She also informed that in the first six months of 2025, Can Tho city welcomed more than 6.3 million visitors, of which over 2.7 million stayed, with revenue reaching nearly VND5,450 billion.
