This morning (September 5), at the National Convention Center (Hanoi), the Ministry of Education and Training held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the education sector's tradition and the opening of the 2025-2026 school year. This is the first time that all educational institutions nationwide will salute the flag and sing the National Anthem at the same time during the opening ceremony of the new school year.

Taking place from 8:00 to 9:30 this morning, the ceremony was broadcast live on VTV1 (Vietnam Television), connected online to all educational and training institutions nationwide with the participation of about 1.7 million teachers and nearly 30 million students nationwide.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son shared that this school year, the education sector is facing unprecedented opportunities. Education and training has never received as much attention and expectation from the Party and the State as it does now. The most important of these is the recent issuance of Resolution 71-NQ/TW by the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development. This is an important political foundation to further promote the fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training.

Regarding professional work, Mr. Kim Son also said that in the 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the 2018 General Education Program after an implementation cycle to clarify the level of achievement in developing students' qualities and abilities; point out advantages, limitations, causes and propose solutions for adjustment, ensuring the program is substantial, effective and sustainable.

The Ministry of Education and Training continues to maintain the viewpoint that "extra classes can consolidate knowledge, but bring little value to human development". The profound consequences of the widespread situation of extra classes require continued drastic rectification...

This is also the year the education sector will pilot the high school graduation exam on computers with more than 100,000 students to be able to pilot from 2027.

Regarding policies for teachers, according to Minister Kim Son, the Ministry of Education and Training is currently completing a draft of detailed regulations on salaries, allowances and policies to attract and support teachers.

"Accordingly, it is expected that the basic salary of all teachers will increase, by at least 2 million VND, and at most up to 5-7 million VND/person/month. This increase is only calculated on the basic salary, not including other allowances," Mr. Kim Son informed.
