After the article "A school in Ho Chi Minh City floods every time it rains heavily, teachers have to bail out water" published on Tuoi Tre Online , on October 4, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tri - Chairman of Tan Hung Ward People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City - said that the ward will soon construct a flood prevention project at this school.
"We will renovate the construction at Nguyen Thi Thap Secondary School to handle flooding. The ward People's Committee is asking the school's board of directors to submit documents for quick resolution, to soon improve learning conditions for students, to resolve the situation of flooding every time there is heavy rain, to avoid long-term effects on students' learning and school activities," said Mr. Tri.
Mr. Tri also said that at the same time, the People's Committee of Tan Hung Ward will establish an investment policy to submit to the City People's Committee and related departments and branches to build a new Nguyen Thi Thap Secondary School to ensure long-term learning and teaching conditions for students and teachers.
Previously, the People's Committee of District 7 (old) submitted an investment policy to build a new Nguyen Thi Thap Secondary School, but it was not approved by the City.
The reason is that although the school already has a detailed plan of 1/500, it needs to increase the scale index, so it needs to adjust the plan to get the investment policy approved.
In addition, about 90% of the District 7 area had a zoning plan, but the South area did not have a zoning plan. Therefore, after the merger, the departments of Ho Chi Minh City said they could not allow projects in these areas to be adjusted because there was no plan.
"After implementing the two-level government, Tan Hung Ward People's Committee met with the Project Management Board to re-establish the plan to build a new Nguyen Thi Thap Secondary School and submit it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture for permission to soon adjust the planning.
Because in reality, if we continue to wait, flooding and the deterioration of the construction will affect the teaching and learning situation of teachers and students at the school," Mr. Tri affirmed.
Nguyen Thi Thap Secondary School was built in 2002, on an area of over 8,000m2 . The school currently has 46 classrooms and more than 10 functional departments with 3 buildings. Flooding in the yard, hallways and classrooms has been happening for many years.
