Students apply AI to earn extra income
No longer just using AI like ChatGPT, MidJourney or Canva AI to support learning, many Vietnamese students have turned them into real tools for making a living.
AI opens up new earning opportunities for students
AI is becoming a familiar income-generating tool for many Vietnamese students. Instead of just using it for studying, ChatGPT, Claude, MidJourney, Canva AI, Runway or CapCut AI are used to write advertisements, translate documents, create video scripts, design posters, illustrate, edit and edit clips in a short time.
Minh Anh, a marketing student in Hanoi, said she got a job making TikTok clips for a fashion shop, using ChatGPT to write the script and CapCut AI to edit the videos. Each clip is paid about 400,000-500,000 VND, a month of regular work can bring in 5-7 million VND. Meanwhile, many other students choose to design posters on Canva AI for small coffee shops, each project is worth 1-2 million VND.
Another case is Quoc Huy, an information technology student in Ho Chi Minh City. Huy uses MidJourney to create illustrations for T-shirt printing products.
Huy cooperates with a small printing factory and sells on Shopee and TikTok Shop. Thanks to that, Huy has a stable income of 7-8 million VND per month.
In addition to direct clients, students also find work through freelance platforms such as Vlance.vn or FreelancerViet. There, they accept SEO content writing, translation, and logo design for small and medium-sized businesses. In just a few weeks, some have completed 3-4 projects, bringing in 6-10 million VND...
Through jobs that can range from small-scale to long-term collaborations, AI is helping students confidently enter the labor market earlier. More importantly, it trains them to combine technology with creativity, control product quality and meet customer needs. This is how digital skills are transformed into real economic value.
Challenges and skills needed for students to generate income from AI
Although it opens up many opportunities, making money from AI is not easy. Many students share that the products they created at first were quite similar, lacking creativity, making it difficult to compete. AI only provides the platform, the difference and real value must come from the ideas and implementation of users.
In addition, the market is increasingly fierce, freelancer platforms or e-commerce have many people using AI to provide services, forcing prices down. To survive, students need to constantly learn, and combine AI with real skills such as marketing, design and customer communication.
Technology can sometimes be frustrating. AI can create erroneous content, glitchy images, or unnatural text. Users have to spend more time editing and improving the quality of products before they can be released to the market.
However, with perseverance and creativity, AI is still becoming a companion to help Vietnamese students become more confident on the path to independence, creating a significant source of income instead of just depending on their family.
