The university journey of the new Bachelor of Business (Logistics and Supply Chain Management), RMIT University - Ngo Viet Luong is marked by perseverance and progress.
Surpassing many candidates to receive the RMIT Outstanding Student Award 2024; being invited to work full-time as a project manager for VinFast before officially graduating… are the “sweet fruits” that seemed out of reach when Ngo Viet Luong entered the university gate more than three years ago.
The new graduate of RMIT University Hanoi revealed that from primary to high school, he was not highly regarded in his studies. “I often compare myself to a sea turtle - slow but extremely persistent and steadfast… It often takes me longer to complete a task than my friends. However, I can maintain consistent quality in all my work and never falter in the face of challenges,” said Ngo Viet Luong.
That spirit has helped the young man achieve impressive results such as: an excellent academic achievement scholarship for students studying at RMIT and a grade point average (GPA) of 3.6/4.0; passing the rigorous selection round to become one of 10 representatives of Vietnam to participate in the McKinsey Southeast Asia Internship Advisory Program in 2023; internship at the Operations Consulting department of PwC - a Big4 company...
In addition to his academic efforts, Viet Luong is also an influential name in the RMIT student community. He worked as a teaching assistant to help other students improve their academic results for more than 2 years. In particular, what makes Luong most proud during his years at RMIT is founding and taking on the position of president of the RMIT Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club (IEC).
The birth of IEC came from what Luong considered “the most disappointing time of his life”. In 2023, he and his teammates failed in a national student competition. The group devoted all their efforts to the competition for months but did not achieve the “sweet fruit” they expected.
“In the following days, every morning when I woke up, I felt extremely disappointed… But then an important thought came to me: I cannot let sadness control my life. From then on, I aimed to realize a long-cherished goal of establishing a club dedicated to students who are passionate about starting a business at RMIT,” said Viet Luong.
He gathered a close group of friends, outlined ambitious plans, participated in heated debates, perfected plans, learned how to multitask… to help IEC operate professionally. Up to now, IEC is one of the outstanding clubs at RMIT University Hanoi campus for student start-ups and social activities.
Viet Luong expressed: “I believe that everyone has a mission in life. Personally, I have determined my mission to make life better, easier and more convenient.”
Three years at RMIT has helped the young man develop resilience, adaptability and diverse thinking. He believes that these foundations are the luggage for him to reach higher goals.
“The university journey has really changed me a lot. From a naive boy when I entered university, I now graduate as a mature man with knowledge, skills and a deep sense of responsibility towards the school and society,” said Viet Luong.
Luong also shared his wish to establish his own company in the future, positively impacting people's lives.
