Slovakia successfully thwarts man who threatened to repeat Prague attack

Slovakian police announced on the evening of December 23 (local time) that they had arrested a 64-year-old man who called the medical emergency number 155 and declared, "I will do what happened in Prague."

Police immediately launched an investigation after receiving the call and the emergency units of the Lehota district police force in Zilina city arrested the person who made the threatening call. The local police also initiated criminal proceedings against the suspect in the case on charges of distributing threatening messages.

The incident occurred on a national day of mourning in the neighboring Czech Republic to commemorate the victims of the shooting in Prague, while the Slovakian Presidential Palace and Government Office also hung black flags in mourning to show solidarity with the Czech Republic.

The December 21 shooting at Charles University in central Prague was the most tragic incident in the history of the Czech Republic, killing 15 people, including the perpetrator, a 24-year-old student, and injuring 25 others, some of whom are still in critical condition.
