Ho Chi Minh City students want to adjust Lunar New Year holiday time

Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the 2024-2025 school year schedule, the Lunar New Year holiday is currently scheduled as a tentative one. By the end of 2024, when the first semester ends, based on the actual study plan, the Department of Education and Training and schools will have a more specific and realistic time.

At the same time, Mr. Minh said that, assessing the actual implementation of the plan of schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Education and Training has submitted a document to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requesting permission to change the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday schedule to suit and ensure enough time to implement the school year plan.

According to the Lunar New Year holiday schedule stipulated in the 2024-2025 school year time plan issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, this school year, more than 1.7 million preschool children and students from primary to high school in Ho Chi Minh City will have Lunar New Year holiday starting from January 25, 2025 (ie December 26th of the lunar calendar) to February 2, 2025 (ie January 5th of the lunar calendar).

Based on the above Lunar New Year holiday schedule, including weekends before and after the specified time, students in Ho Chi Minh City have a total of 9 days off.

Meanwhile, with the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday schedule, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a break from February 5, 2024 (ie December 26th of the lunar calendar) to February 18, 2024 (ie January 9th). Including weekends before and after the scheduled time, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 16 days off.

Thus, if applied according to the expected time frame, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have 7 days less Tet holiday in 2025 than last year.

With the above Tet holiday period, in recent days, many parents, students and teachers have expressed their wish to increase the number of days off so that students have more time off to meet the needs of returning to their hometowns...
