Repair damaged median strip soon

Many median strips on important roads in Da Nang city are damaged or disassembled, posing a potential risk of accidents and need to be repaired soon.

Recorded at the foot of the 2/9 overpass (opposite 152 2/9 street), the plastic median strip about 150m long was damaged, many pillars were broken, creating a wide gap. Taking advantage of this gap, many motorcyclists often crossed the road right next to the foot of the overpass, where vehicles were going downhill, making collisions very likely. On the opposite side of the bridge, a similar situation also occurred when people arbitrarily crossed the gap in the median strip, posing a risk to traffic safety.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (Hoa Xuan ward), who often travels across the bridge, said: “Having witnessed many times with my own eyes motorbikes and even cars brazenly crossing, I am really worried. Just a moment of carelessness, a collision can happen at any time, especially when the vehicle is rushing downhill quite quickly. I think the authorities need to soon replace it with a solid, solid median strip to prevent and ensure safety for everyone.”

The owner of a grocery store across from the 2/9 overpass said that during rush hours in the morning, noon, and evening, vehicles cross here. Several accidents have occurred here, injuring pedestrians. To end this situation, it is necessary to install solid, seamless dividers instead of easily removable plastic blocks.

At the beginning of the Dien Bien Phu underpass (opposite the old Chinh Gian Ward People's Committee headquarters), the median strip of more than 100m is in a similar situation. Many sections have been arbitrarily removed by people, creating openings to cross the road. During morning and afternoon rush hours, the density of vehicles passing through this route is very high. People suddenly crossing through the gaps increases the risk of collisions, especially when vehicles are moving at high speed inside and outside the tunnel.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (resident of Thanh Khe ward) reported that in early 2025, after receiving feedback from people via hotline 1022, the authorities temporarily replaced it with mobile dividers combined with warning safety ropes right at the foot of the underpass. However, after a short time, some people deliberately removed them to open a shortcut. It is recommended that the city soon install permanent hard dividers and take strict measures to handle cases of intentional removal, to ensure safety for road users.

Speaking to reporters, a representative of the Department of Construction said that they had received the feedback and directed relevant units to inspect and repair the damage, ensuring traffic order and safety in the city.
