Soong Co, Cheo - National intangible cultural heritage

BAC NINH - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just recognized the Soong Co folk performing art of the San Diu people and the Cheo art of Bac Ninh province as national intangible cultural heritages in the category of folk performing art.

This is a great pride, affirming the value of unique folk art forms in Bac Ninh province; at the same time, it is an important milestone in the journey of preserving national cultural identity, an opportunity for the younger generation to love, understand and continue to preserve the quintessence of their ancestors.

The antiphonal singing of the Soong Co tune of the San Diu ethnic group often takes place in spaces familiar to daily life.

Nowadays, teaching San Diu language, writing and folk songs to the young generation is of interest.

Soong Co performance is creative and flexible - one side sings, the other side responds.

When performing Soong Co, people use their ethnic language and wear traditional costumes.

The Vietnam Army Cheo Theater coordinated with localities to perform the Cheo play "Tuoi Tre Nguyen Van Cu" to serve the people in the province.
