Learning is different

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên01/02/2024

Therefore, while a few years ago the issue of whether or not to assign homework to students during Tet was still controversial, now school leaders have proactively and decisively said "no" to Tet homework.

The principals of high schools this year who asked teachers not to assign homework to students all share the same view that Tet is a time for students to rest after a stressful time of studying; to have fun and relax comfortably with their families. From the reality of previous years, it shows that even if teachers assign homework to students, it is not effective. In the end, both teachers and students feel pressured and stressed on the days when everyone should be resting most comfortably after a busy year.

Even for final year students who have to take graduation or entrance exams, this period does not necessarily require them to "take advantage" of studying day and night to cram knowledge because preparing for important exams is a long journey, with a plan and scientific arrangement, and cannot be done in a few days of Tet. Therefore, the school also asks parents to cooperate and not ask teachers to assign homework for students for fear that their children will forget the knowledge during the long Tet holiday.

Moreover, learning is not just about knowledge imparted in class by teachers.

The Tet holidays are a valuable time for students to learn something different from everyday life, to help them improve themselves. Simply put, if observed, traditional activities during the traditional Tet holidays help students understand more about the people living around them, and more broadly, their villages, hometowns, and country. Tet holidays are a rare time for families to gather together, filled with the joy of reunion, which will also help students understand more clearly the sacred value of family and clan; and learn more about members that they may have never met before.

Tet will also be the days when students have free time to read a few more books, many good articles, watch their favorite movies, compose a song, write more poems, plan projects... These are also things that need to be learned, but because of being busy with schoolwork, extra classes... students find it difficult to do in a relaxed state of mind.

For students with international goals, they can also take advantage of this time when Vietnam is on vacation but other countries are still working to focus on implementing their plans. Even if any student likes to experience solving difficult problems, it is okay as long as they feel interested and find joy in their studies. At that time, studying is a personal need, not an order from others.

And who knows, from these days of rest, many students will reap the benefits of having time to do the things they love.

We are living in an open world , an era of rapid technological development and change, so learning and acquiring knowledge also need to be approached in a new direction, not just in books. With that in mind, homework during Tet is really no longer necessary for students, but technology is present in almost all daily activities and information is easily accessible anywhere.
