“In 2021, when the Central region was flooded, I mobilized people to make banh tet and send it to people. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, I went to cook rice to support quarantine areas, and from here, my community work continued to expand,” Ms. Thuy shared about her fate in volunteering.
Before that, she mainly focused on helping children studying at school. She mobilized to help them have enough school bags and uniforms. Then, seeing that there were many other students facing difficulties and at risk of dropping out of school, she proactively sought out their circumstances, then contacted benefactors near and far to ask for support and help.
Ngo Thanh Giau and her three sisters in Hiep Hung commune were orphaned and lived together in a makeshift house. About two years ago, thanks to Ms. Thuy's connection, they were supported to build a new house and receive 1 million VND/month in living expenses. Thanks to that help, Giau graduated from high school, has an intermediate accounting degree and is continuing his studies at college.
Em Giau shared: “Thanks to the care of benefactors and the help of Ms. Thuy, my three sisters have a home and their studies are not interrupted. I try to find a job to take care of my siblings' studies until at least grade 12. My two younger siblings are in grades 3 and 5.”
Ms. Hang Ngoc Thuy gives gifts to disadvantaged students in Dai Thanh ward before the new school year.
Not only that, Ms. Thuy also mobilizes to sponsor many lonely elderly people. In Hiep Hung and Phuong Binh communes, there are 7 elderly people who are being supported by her with 300,000 VND per month. She is also a bridge with philanthropists to support poor patients, disabled people, families with housing difficulties and charity kitchens at hospitals.
Ms. Thuy's community activities increase day by day. For many years, she has enthusiastically mobilized funds to build bridges and roads. Since the beginning of 2025, the total amount of money and gifts she has mobilized has exceeded half a billion VND.
The image of Ms. Hang Ngoc Thuy, regardless of the sun or rain, going to each house to give gifts has become familiar to the people here. During her 32 years as a teacher, she has always been devoted to generations of students, to the school, and to the class. Now, she is a shining example of kindness, with practical contributions to the community.
Ms. Bui Thi Le Nguyen, Vice Chairwoman of Tan Binh Commune People's Council, shared: "Ms. Thuy not only completed her professional tasks well but also set an exemplary example in community activities. She has contributed to lighting the fire of hope, inspiring people, warming the lives of those in need, so that love can always be multiplied and spread."
