In Syria, state media (SANA) said the country's air defense system intercepted "hostile" targets in the Damascus area.

Meanwhile, in Iraq, Reuters news agency quoted two local military officials as saying that at least two Katyusha rockets were fired at a military base housing US forces near Baghdad International Airport, but were intercepted by air defense systems.

The Telegraph newspaper reported that the attack targeted the Victoria military base, but US officials have yet to confirm the incident.

Two security sources told AFP news agency that the base was "targeted by three rockets", two of which were "shot down by the base's special defense forces".

"The third rocket fell near the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Services Command," the source said, noting that there were no casualties and the rockets did not affect air traffic.

Camp Victoria is a complex at Baghdad International Airport that served as the headquarters of US forces in Iraq from 2003 to 2011, before being handed over to the Iraqi government . The base still hosts US forces and has previously been a target of Islamic militants in Iraq.

The rocket used in the attack is believed to have been a Katyusha , a weapon first developed by the Soviet Union and recently used by Hezbollah and other Iran-linked groups in Iraq in the Middle East.
