On December 30, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Dinh Viet Thang issued a directive on strengthening measures to ensure aviation safety after a series of consecutive plane crashes that occurred around the world in recent days, ahead of the Lunar New Year peak which is approaching very soon.

Recently, there have been consecutive aviation accidents around the world, causing serious human losses, such as the Jeju Air B737-800 plane crash on December 29 that killed 179/181 people on board in Korea; the Azerbaijan Airlines E190 plane crash on December 25 that killed 38/67 people on board in Kazakhstan...

In the context of the Lunar New Year, when the density of aviation activities increases, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires aircraft operators and aircraft maintenance units to comply with flight operation regulations and procedures, especially in adverse weather conditions, to ensure flight safety.

Technical staff must comply with procedures and instructions on aircraft maintenance and technical inspection before putting the aircraft into operation.

Airlines need to plan flights that completely avoid airspace areas with risks of armed conflicts, closely monitor weather developments to adjust or change flight schedules accordingly to minimize the risk of adverse weather.

Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation is assigned to urge air traffic controllers to comply with regulations and flight operations procedures; update meteorological information to proactively operate appropriately and promptly provide information to pilots; detect situations that potentially threaten flight safety to advise and assist flight crews.

Vietnam Airports Corporation and Van Don airport are required to monitor information on runway conditions that may affect aircraft operations for air traffic control facilities and check regulations on airport safety for construction, renovation, repair and upgrading of runways, taxiways and aprons.

Airports are also assigned to chase away birds operating in the airport area, and prevent pets from entering the airport area. Port authorities are assigned to coordinate with local authorities to detect laser beams, illegal use of flycams, drones, and kite flying that affect flight safety; and strictly handle organizations and individuals that violate aviation safety regulations.

In mid-May 2024, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Aviation Safety Inspection Team assessed Vietnam's aviation safety capacity and conducted on-site monitoring at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports.

Preliminary results show that the efficiency index (EI) of Vietnam's aviation sector reached 77%, an increase of 11% compared to 2016. Of which, the airport and airport exploitation sector reached 83%, an increase of 28% compared to 2016.
