Warm Tet in the "people-pleasing" alleys

(NLDO) - Many spacious alleys in Ho Chi Minh City have just been upgraded and repaired using the method of the state and the people working together.

On the days before Tet At Ty, alley 23 Mai Lao Bang (Ward 13, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) is busier than usual.

Children on holiday rushed out to the alley to play. Looking at the children, the adults were also full of excitement.

The alley is 5m wide and over 219m long with its present neat, clean and beautiful appearance, covered with flags and flowers, is the result of consensus between the government and the people. The alley was upgraded in a method of the government and the people working together.

The project has a total investment of over 1.4 billion VND. Of which, the state spends over 1 billion VND; the people contribute over 440 billion VND.

Mr. Do Thanh Chuong (resident of alley 23 Mai Lao Bang) said that after a long time of use, this alley had degraded with a rough surface, many potholes, making it difficult for people to travel.

When there was a policy to upgrade this alley by the government and the people working together, everyone agreed and supported it.

"Every step from issuing the plan, collecting people's opinions, mobilizing people's contributions to construction and completion of the project happened very quickly. We, the people, are very happy that the alley is as clean and beautiful as it is now," said Mr. Chuong.

Alley 23 Mai Lao Bang after being upgraded by the method of state and people working together has promoted efficiency.

According to Mr. Chuong, since this alley was upgraded, people's lives have changed significantly. Every afternoon, children run here to play. Adults go for walks and do exercises happily without having to find a place elsewhere like before. People's awareness of hygiene has also been raised. There is no more littering or letting dogs and cats roam free like before.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luu has lived in alley 23 Mai Lao Bang since 1989. That is why she clearly feels the changes of this alley, from its formation to its degradation and then upgrading.

"Everyone is happy because the alley has been upgraded. We, the people, are always united and ready to work with the government to create practical and meaningful public works. This year, my neighborhood will celebrate Tet bigger and happier than every year because of this new alley," said Ms. Luu.

Alley 220 Nguyen Trong Tuyen (Ward 8, Phu Nhuan District) is bright and cheerful these days. Flags, flowers, lanterns... are hung from the beginning to the end of the alley by the people.

Alley 220 Nguyen Trong Tuyen has just put on a new coat thanks to the consensus and determination of both the government and the people. This is also a competition project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Ms. Le Thi Mai (resident of alley 220 Nguyen Trong Tuyen) said that before being upgraded, alley 220 Nguyen Trong Tuyen was seriously degraded. The road surface had many potholes, and was often flooded when it rained.

"I have been to many alleys, but now I think my alley is the most beautiful. The road surface is flat, cars run smoothly. Not only me but everyone here is satisfied with this project" - Ms. Mai said.

According to Ms. Mai, the quality and significance of the project makes people trust and support the method of the state and people working together.

"When the alley upgrade project officially started, everyone was excited. We even contributed our time and money to go to the market and cook for the workers. For more than 2 months, the workers at the project always had delicious meals to eat... Maybe because of this, the workers worked very hard, urgently, and carefully" - Ms. Mai said.
