Fake police call
The Ministry of Public Security said it has continuously received complaints from people denouncing individuals impersonating police officers and making threatening phone calls with the aim of defrauding and appropriating property.
Notably, although many recommendations have been made and news agencies and newspapers have published many articles and news about prevention of this type of crime, some people still "fall into the trap" of scammers, losing billions of dong.
According to Hanoi City Police, the method of this type of crime is to use high-tech software, anonymize phone numbers similar to those of publically listed police agencies, and notify victims related to a case or incident that the police are investigating.
The subjects provided information consistent with the victim's identity and assets and made threats, even staged and connected the victim to see and talk on the phone with a person who was said to be a police officer to make the victim trust them. After that, the criminals asked the victim to transfer money to the account they designated, and at the same time forced the victim to keep the matter secret to serve the investigation.
Therefore, when you receive any call claiming to be from the police investigating a case, you should immediately go to the nearest police station to report it. In addition, you should not disclose personal information on social networks, e-commerce sites, or when shopping at stores.
At the same time, you should not follow strangers' requests such as downloading installation links, logging in personal information, bank accounts, to avoid revealing personal information, allowing criminals to take advantage of it to defraud and appropriate property.
Call from fake online seller
If we shop online, someone pretends to be a seller and calls, saying that there is a problem with a product we bought at the moment that it cannot be shipped, or for some reason money needs to be transferred.
They may send you a link, once we accidentally click on this link, it is very likely that the information in our mobile phone will be stolen. If we accidentally enter our bank card account password, it is possible that the money in your bank card will be stolen.
