Su Anh Agricultural Production Service Cooperative, My Bang Commune (Yen Son) is famous for its Ngoc Thuy green tea products with delicious flavor, favored by consumers. The Cooperative is also a bright spot in the province's OCOP program. Mr. Nguyen Cong Su, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of the Cooperative, said that in the early days of the Cooperative's establishment, the products did not have packaging or labels, so the product value was low. Each year, the product revenue was only from 800 to 1 billion VND. By 2019, the Cooperative had built and protected the brand, designed packaging, packaged beautiful and eye-catching packaging, and improved product quality, bringing the revenue value from 3 to 5 billion VND.
In 2020, Su Anh Agricultural Production Service Cooperative participated in the OCOP program of Tuyen Quang province and was certified for 7 products with OCOP certification from 3 stars and 4 stars. To reach a large number of consumers, in addition to researching to produce quality products, the Cooperative regularly designs, changes beautiful packaging models and uses packaging materials such as bamboo roots, biodegradable paper, environmentally friendly to preserve technology, vacuum paper materials. The packaging clearly shows information for customers to easily identify such as product stamps, traceability stamps, tea brand logos and instructions on how to use the product, origin.
Leaders of Yen Son District People's Committee visited the improved OCOP product packaging designs.
Recently, the Cooperative has designed a packaging model of a sand-yellow bamboo box, cylindrical in shape, weighing 100g, packaged in a vacuum bag, easily decomposing into the environment. The product is gradually becoming a commodity associated with local tourism development.
Improve competitiveness
Understanding the importance of innovation and improvement of product designs, labels and packaging for promotion and enhancing competitiveness in the market, Yen Son district has recently implemented many solutions to support and encourage OCOP product owners in the area. Yen Son is also the first locality to organize a contest for packaging and label designs of OCOP products.
Bringing to the Soi Ha grapefruit packaging competition of his hometown, Mr. Trieu Van Tuyen, Xuan Van Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative shared: Along with product quality, packaging and labels also contribute to creating the brand of the product. Packaging and labels are the first things consumers see to identify and see the origin, thereby deciding whether to choose the product or not. Therefore, perfecting packaging and labels with barcodes, traceability, etc. not only creates attractiveness and reliability for the product but also directly increases competitiveness and expands the market for the product.
Currently, Yen Son district is leading the province in OCOP products with a total of 61 products. Of which, 9 products are ranked 4 stars, 52 products are ranked 3 stars. In particular, in 2024, the district has 4 agricultural products exported to the UK market, which are Guava tea and male papaya flowers soaked in honey of Binh Minh organic agricultural products cooperative; Dried bananas of Chieu Yen clean banana cooperative and Soi Ha grapefruit products.
With the goal of enhancing the value and brand of local products, creating jobs and stable income for people, Yen Son district has encouraged entities to improve production capacity and at the same time improve product designs and packaging in a way that is safe for consumers and environmentally friendly, both suitable to the characteristics of the product and associated with promoting the image of the homeland. According to Vice Chairman of Yen Son District People's Committee Le Quang Toan, the OCOP product packaging and label design contest in Yen Son district is an opportunity to encourage and promote creative ideas of cooperatives, production and business households, towards professionalization, meeting the requirements of competition in the market.
Changing the design and packaging of OCOP products also contributes to preserving and developing the typical products of each locality. Thereby promoting traditional production values while changing the mindset of small-scale, fragmented production to concentrated, large-scale production, meeting the domestic and export markets.
