Competition "Protect the environment, say no to plastic waste"

In recent times, especially in the period 2021-2025, the emulation movement "Protecting the environment, saying no to plastic waste" in the city has had a profound influence. From this movement, many good models and meaningful ways have emerged to help reduce plastic waste, raise awareness of preserving and protecting the environment among the people. These models continue to be maintained and bring about effectiveness.

Organizations and businesses participated in planting 700 trees in the program "Clean Environment - Green Life" to contribute to protecting a green - clean - beautiful environment.

From 2023 to now, the "Scrap House" model of Le Hong Phong Secondary School, Phu Loi Ward, Can Tho City has been maintained. Tran Gia Thoai, a student of class 4/2, said: "Every time my classmates and I collect cans, plastic bottles, and old, broken plastic items, we bring them to the scrap house. This helps me know how to classify waste and not litter to protect the environment. I am also very happy to know that the money from selling scrap will be contributed to the school's team fund to support poor students to overcome difficulties."

Currently in Phu Loi ward, some primary and secondary schools still maintain the "scrap house" model. The model not only contributes to propaganda and raising awareness for staff, teachers and students about waste collection and classification but also promotes the spirit of mutual love and affection, spreading environmental protection awareness to students.

In addition to the models of "Scrap House", "Scrap House", schools also organize programs "Exchanging plastic waste for gifts", "Second journey of tires" - recycling old tires into play and entertainment tools, recycling into flower beds, trash cans to build green spaces for preschool students, booths to exchange used plastic bottles, old batteries for trees, school supplies for students... are meaningful, practical and effective activities.

In June this year, Syngenta Vietnam Company coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Soc Trang province (formerly) to organize the program "Clean Environment - Green Life" with many environmental activities. Accordingly, the Organizing Committee collected and treated about 2 tons of agricultural waste including used pesticide packaging in communes, and planted 700 trees on rural roads.

The model of “Environmental protection in canals” or “Garbage collection on rivers” implemented by participating organizations has contributed to raising people’s awareness and responsibility in environmental protection. At the canals, trash bins are also placed to thoroughly collect waste generated, combined with planting trees to create an aesthetic appearance and green corridor.

The models of "Zero-waste route", "Self-managed youth route for security and order", "Civilized route", "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe route" have focused on handling black spots of environmental pollution, cleaning in front of the headquarters of agencies and units, collecting household waste on the route... have helped reduce littering, cleared up garbage accumulation points, creating a vibrant movement not only among union members and youth but also spreading throughout the community.

Accompanying the youth, households doing business in association with environmental protection, in wards such as Nga Nam ward, there are models of "Raising French Muscovy ducks combined with using probiotics mixed with agricultural by-products" and "Raising guinea fowl on biological bedding"; in Soc Trang ward, many households maintain the model of "Using waste and agricultural by-products as fertilizer for vegetables to contribute to reducing environmental pollution"... not only helping the youth and local people develop the economy, increase income but also contribute to reducing environmental pollution...

It can be said that the movement has created many positive changes in people's awareness. Currently, in the communes and wards of Can Tho City, many movements and models continue to be maintained and promoted effectively.
