Global smartphone market continues to recover in the second quarter of 2024

Báo Nhân dânBáo Nhân dân16/07/2024

According to preliminary data from market research firm IDC, the total number of smartphones shipped worldwide in the second quarter of 2024 reached 285.4 million units, up 6.5% over the same period last year (268 million units).

This is the fourth consecutive quarter that the market has recorded growth as smartphone manufacturers are focusing on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology to attract consumers and expand their market share.

Samsung maintained its leading position with shipments of 53.9 million units, up 0.7% compared to Q2 2023 and accounting for 18.9% of the market share. This was followed by Apple with 45.2 million units (up 1.5%, accounting for 15.8% of the market share) and Xiaomi with 42.3 million units (up 27.4%, accounting for 14.8% of the market share).

“Samsung and Apple continue to lead the market and benefit the most from the premiumization trend. Meanwhile, many leading Chinese manufacturers are increasing shipments at the low end to gain more market share amid weak demand,” said Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC Worldwide Tracker.

According to Ms. Popal, this is also the reason why the market share of mid-range smartphone devices is facing many challenges.

However, IDC representatives assessed that the global smartphone market is currently very exciting thanks to the increase in average selling prices as well as great interest in AI-integrated smartphones, which are forecast to take up 19% of the market share this year (about 234 million units shipped).
