Miner Pham Dinh Duan - a shining example of creativity at work

VOV.VN - Mr. Pham Dinh Duan is one of the best and most experienced miners in the coal industry. During his 20 years in the profession, he has had 11 technical innovations that benefit the unit, especially improving working conditions for workers. With his efforts and creativity in work, he has received many noble awards.

After graduating from high school in 2003, Pham Dinh Duan left his hometown Thai Binh to study in Quang Ninh and has been involved in the mining industry ever since. Nearly 20 years later, when he became a "Skilled Worker", he still remembers the time when he first started his career and was assigned to work at Mining Workshop 5, Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company. Duan said that at that time, he often felt discouraged because of the hard and difficult work, but with the encouragement and help of his colleagues in the company, he found joy in each drill and tunnel.

“When I was young, I could not imagine the mining profession, but after entering the mine, I felt the hardship and difficulty of the job, but I did not give up because of that, I needed to have passion and love for the job. In reality, when I went to the production site, I often observed, when I saw the work was difficult, I thought that there needed to be an initiative to improve this job to ensure safety, increase labor productivity, and reduce the worker's strength."

With his love for the job, worker Pham Dinh Duan has constantly learned, researched, and optimized his work to increase productivity and reduce labor with dozens of technical innovations. Many of Duan's innovations have been widely applied in workshops, contributing to improving productivity and especially ensuring labor safety in the mine. A typical example is the initiative to use B40 steel mesh to cover the roof of the mine in the production preparation furnaces.

Mr. Dao Binh Minh, Deputy Technical Manager of KT14 Workshop, said that this initiative not only helps reduce coal deduction costs but also improves safety, saves time and labor of workers: “Before using B40 mesh, we would use wooden wedges to cover the roof but would not cover the entire cross-section of the roof. When the initiative to use B40 was introduced, the amount of wood used to hang on the roof was much less than before, and B40 mesh is very light and easy to transport. One person can carry a few rolls. Now, safety is definitely the top priority and productivity is higher. Because when spreading B40 mesh simply, it is very fast, just need to tie it with steel wire. Then spread the wood underneath, about 2-3 trees per cycle. I think this initiative is very reasonable, improving working conditions to reduce labor and ensure safety”.

Besides, some other initiatives of Mr. Duan such as digging a drainage pipe from the parallel furnace to the vertical furnace of level 6 of Vang Danh well and processing coal measuring cylinders at the market furnace III-8-1, area III of Vang Danh well... have also helped the company increase productivity, save costs and improve working conditions of workers.

Applying the technical innovations of Mr. Pham Dinh Duan, the average tunneling productivity per shift of workers in Mining Workshop 14 also increased from 1.3 to 1.5 times, bringing in an income of 12 to 22 million VND/month/person (an increase of nearly 200% of the average salary for mining workers in 2013). Mr. Duan personally always has an income of 300 million VND/year, an income level that many other professions can hardly achieve.

For young workers, Mr. Pham Van Duan always enthusiastically instructs them on every smallest detail to improve work efficiency and ensure safety at work.

Thanks to efforts to improve working conditions, the average productivity of mining per shift at Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company's Mining Workshop has increased from 1.3 to 1.5 times, the income of workers is from 12 to 22 million VND/month, an increase of nearly 200% of the average salary for mining workers in 2013.

“I have been working with comrade Pham Dinh Duan since 2014. During the working process, he has always enthusiastically helped and instructed me. The production area changes by shift and by day. In the market furnaces with weak furnace mirrors, Mr. Duan is always enthusiastic, holding my hand to guide me, bringing the furnace mirrors back to a safe state, then starting production.”

“Besides work, I think Mr. Duẩn has a lot to learn, especially his studies. From an elementary worker, he strived to study for a Master's degree in mining. Not many workers can do what he did, going to school and still meeting the job standards.”

With perseverance, creativity, love and understanding of his work down to the smallest detail, miner Pham Dinh Duan has created his own values, contributed to the collective and deepened the glorious tradition of mining workers, contributing to raising the position of workers in the cause of building and developing the country.
