Threads is currently testing posts that disappear after 24 hours with a limited number of users on its social network. A Threads spokesperson said it's a new and comfortable way to share, but wouldn't say if the test is limited by region or who can enable the posts.

App analyst Alessandro Paluzzi also posted a temporary post recently, showing that tapping the reply button shows how much time is left before the post is deleted. Threads also displays a notification at the top of the post, indicating that the post and all replies will disappear when the time is up.
Previously in June 2024, Paluzzi first shared information about Threads developing a self-destructing post feature, with a screenshot showing a 24-hour button next to the Publish button to create such posts.
Posts that self-destruct after 24 hours can help creators share content that’s off-topic or unrelated to their brand. They can also be useful for people who post commentary about live events, which may no longer be relevant or understandable once the event is over.
Twitter previously launched a self-destructing post format similar to Instagram Stories called Fleets in 2020, but discontinued it after a year due to low usage. If Threads rolls out its self-destructing post feature more widely, it could become one of the few social networks to offer it.
