Cao Phong orange capital has a good harvest and good price thanks to replanting

In the last days of the year, farmers in Cao Phong orange growing area are excited because this year's orange crop is good and the price is good.

Clean, organically grown oranges have eye-catching designs in orange gardens in Hoa Binh.

Quickly cutting the ripe oranges in time for the traders to pick them up, Mrs. Tran Thi Que (Cao Phong town, Cao Phong district) shared: “My family planted 3000m according to the organic orange model. Because it is the first year of planting, this is the first crop, currently harvested about 5 tons. With an average price of 40,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, compared to the annual price, the oranges have a good harvest and good price.

“At the beginning of the season, the price was good, and my family’s orange garden only harvested about 2 tons. This year, the yield is stable, the price and market are stable, so people have less trouble,” Ms. Que confided.

Currently, the province is implementing a model field for orange tree replanting in Cao Phong district with a scale of 13.98 hectares, with 32 households voluntarily participating in the model.

The model applies technical solutions to treat and improve soil, creating safe land for orange replanting. Participating households are trained in soil treatment techniques, planting techniques, care and disease prevention, ensuring VietGAP standard output for products.

The model field for orange replanting in Cao Phong district is expected to be a solution to improve economic efficiency for this citrus tree.

In recent years, Cao Phong people have actively invested in intensive farming, implementing a series of technical solutions to improve product designs and quality to serve the expansion of export markets; the province continues to implement key tasks of the citrus fruit replanting project.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Yen, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hoa Binh province, Cao Phong district has 1,800 hectares of citrus trees including oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and lemons, with the majority being orange trees with an area of ​​1,500 hectares. In 2024, the locality will maintain an output of over 105,000 tons.

“In the past 2 years, many areas in the locality have been replanted and are stabilizing, with a tendency to develop. The target of 1,500 hectares by the end of 2025 is completely achievable with model fields with the scale of a pure garden,” Mr. Yen commented.

According to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Hoa Binh province, after 40 years, Hoa Binh has just re-exported 7 tons of oranges to the UK market. In 2024 alone, the locality is planning to export 25 tons of products to the Malaysian market.
